The first EP from Spookyghostboy, "The Forest Summer EP", was released on July 21st, 2012. Critical reception was largely positive, with one such reviewer calling the newly-minted "ghost-pop" genre "really, really cool."
Following the both commercial and critical success of "Forest Summer", Thomas released a new EP in October of 2012. "XVII", a noticeably darker and more cohesive release, saw Thomas exploring the inherent melancholy of the fall and winter seasons. This, along with up-tempo single "rad cats", made "XVII" a much more successful release from Spookyghostboy.

Spookyghostboy Lyrics

and mama won't let them inside
cause she knows that dad is a stone cold killer
and he's got his way with a knife
i've gotta move up from the bottom
and push myself into the light
cause i feel like i'm just surrounded by people
you've got a lot of nerve to say this is all my fault
you better hope you're right, you better hope that you're right
The lyrics to Spookyghostboy's song "Cops" are haunting and intense, painting a vivid picture of a tense situation. The first verse describes the arrival of the police at the singer's home, and the fear that their father, who is a dangerous killer, will be discovered. The second verse is more introspective, as the singer reflects on their own feelings of inadequacy and the sense that they are surrounded by people who are smarter or more successful than they are.
The chorus takes on a confrontational tone, addressing an unnamed person who has accused the singer of causing the situation. The repeated refrain "you better hope you're right" implies a willingness to fight or defend themselves against these accusations.
Overall, the song touches on themes of fear, desperation, self-doubt, and the need for courage in difficult circumstances. It's a powerful piece of music that showcases Spookyghostboy's skill at creating emotionally charged, evocative lyrics.
