The Army formed in late 05 and achieved interest from a variety of labels in the states, the inclusion of tracks on various compilations and rotation on west coast college radio. Creative differences and a yearning for digital pastures spelled the end of the Army playing their final gig at the Espy in Melbourne in June 08. As chance would have it, Mo and Rex met at that gig and informally made future plans to write their own style of music.

Spring found them holed up in a smokey room with a mac, a mic and head full of ideas.. 3 months later, 10 new songs, 4 willing musos and 1 common goal - make great, synth laced, original music.

With fresh ideas emerging daily and the band hard at work rehearsing it was decided the old name wouldn't encompass the new direction. Squares and Zeros are everywhere. It represents everything and nothing. A tree, the digital age, your lips, the ocean. Our lives are ruled by digits, our vision filled with lines. The name means something unique to everyone - as does the music.

With influences as diverse as Hendrix to Devo, Steely Dan to Daft Punk, Squares & Zeros now blend old and new seamlessly to create musical treasures.

Working with a new producer, Leigh Evans (Muscles), Squares and Zeros are looking forward to the release of their debut album, a series of shows around the country and 09 as the year of their arrival on planet pop.

One of the easiest way is to solve by factorization or quadratic equation formula but I will solve this equation by factorization method.
3x2+14x-15=0
4x is same thing as 9x-5x
3x2+9x-5x-15=0
3x(x+3)-5(x+3)=0
3x-5=0 and x+3=0
3x=5
X=5/3

X+3=0
X=-3
X=5/3 or x=-3

3x ² + 4x - 15 = 0
Multiply coefficient of x ² by lone number: 3 x -15 = -45
Then find two numbers that should add to get the coefficient of x (4) as normal, but multiply to get -45. These two numbers are +9 and -5.
Therefore it can be written as:
3x ² + 9x - 5x - 15 = 0=
3x (x+3) -5(x+3) = 0 (the bracketed parts should always be the same, hence this can be written
as:
(3x-5)(x+3)=0 (for this to be true, either bracket should total 0 as anything times 0 is 0)
3x-5=0 x+3=0
3x=5. x=-3
x= 5/3

for anyone having confusion with the fifth step with the 4/3 thing, here's the formula used in that step:
(x+y)² = x²+2xy+y² or we can write it as x²+2xy+y² = (x+y)²
So, here is what he does (at 3:00) :
=x² + 4/3x + (2/3)²
=x² + 2*2/3*x + (2/3)²
=(x+2/3)²

The notation would be better if instead of showing 'x' as 'x' he used the presentation as shown in the question, i.e. the curved x. This avoids the problem of x being confused with a multiplication sign. Sometimes a dot is used to signify multiplication, but then this becomes confused with the decimal point.

As to the people who are asking where the 4/3x went, here is an explanation
So, (a+b)^2 is
a^2+b^2+2ab
So in this equation the a^2 is x^2
b^2 is (2/3)^2
And 2ab is 4/3x
So what he did is simple converted the a^2+b^2+2ab into (a+b)^2
Which is why ate the end he got (x+2/3)^2, i.e (a+b)^2

3x^2 + 4x - 15 = 0
Multiply the coefficients of first and last term i.e (3 * 15 = 45) , find the factor for 45 such that its difference is equal to the mid term (i.e. 4 in this case, i found 9*5 = 45, also 9-5 = 4,

There is a much quicker way to do this. 3x15=45. Factors of 45. when added =4. So Use +9 -5 =4
Flip this to -9. +5 then divide by 3
Therefore -9/3. 5/3
So X = -3/1 or 5/3
X= -3 or 5/3

I think this is a great method. But why go through so much trouble if you can do this simple factoring method.
factor the equation into (3x-5)(x+3)=0
x can either be 3x-5=0 or x+3=0, then solve for x from there. then you get two possible values of x.

What a bloody complicated solution! I did it mentally. Pretty straightforward. Obviously you have 3x times x giving first parts of both brackets. 15 is obviously 5 x 3, with one of them being negative. Just do some simple multip[lication to get positioning to give 9x - 5x. i.e. (3x - 5) (x + 3) Last time I did this sort of stuff was some nearly 60 years ago at school.

Since I do not like working with fractions, I just multiply all by 3...leaving me: {(3x)^2 +4(3x) - 15} / 3. Then I got this 2 factors: (3x+9) and (3x-5) in the numerator. Then I simplifly the fraction. I got (x+3) and (3x-5). Then I just solve for x. x1= -3 and x2= 5/3.
