Skin
St. Catherine's Child Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've seen every firefighter burn deep inside her
Do you need a grey sky writer, my skin deep diver?
When you finally come up for air
I'll be soaking my boots right there

But I just can't imagine you in that fashion
Until we find a reason for this star treason
Someday momma, lonely comma
I don't want to fight this fire
Sole survivor, skin deep diver
I just want to burn it higher
But I can see you going blinder
Somehow as the night goes whiter

I've seen every death defier cower at her mire
Do you need a grey sky writer for your skin deep fire?

When you finally come up for me
I'll be counting sand patiently

Overall Meaning

In the song "Skin" by St. Catherine's Child, the lyrics portray a sense of intimacy and emotional depth. The first verse talks about witnessing the internal struggles and turmoil of someone, metaphorically comparing them to a firefighter burning deep inside. The singer offers their support and presence, symbolized by being there to soak their boots when the person resurfaces. The use of the phrase "skin deep diver" suggests delving beneath the surface and understanding someone's innermost feelings and fears.

The second verse expresses difficulty in picturing the person in a certain way until a cause or explanation for their inner turmoil is understood -- the "star treason." This could refer to a personal betrayal or conflict that has deeply affected the individual. The singer seems determined to unravel this mystery and provide comfort and understanding to the person in distress.

The third verse brings a shift in tone, with the singer addressing a maternal figure, using the imagery of a "lonely comma" to convey a sense of isolation and longing. The desire to not fight the fire but instead nurture and elevate it higher suggests a willingness to embrace challenges and transform them into something meaningful. The reference to going "blinder" as the night gets brighter could symbolize a growing sense of confusion or uncertainty despite external circumstances appearing clearer.

In the final verse, the singer reflects on observing individuals who bravely face challenges only to retreat in the face of overwhelming odds. The plea for a "grey sky writer" highlights the need for someone to document and make sense of the struggles and triumphs of life. The counting of sand patiently symbolizes a willingness to wait and support the person as they navigate their inner struggles and emerge stronger on the other side. Overall, the lyrics of "Skin" by St. Catherine's Child convey themes of empathy, resilience, and the complex nature of human emotions.

The day of her birth was 25th of March and I were born the same day. She has a twin and I were born with a twin brother. Her twin died at young age and my twin brother is now with them.

We have lots of similarities and I am so grateful to know that.

My dear Euphrosyne, pray for us.
St. Catherine of Siena, hear us.
