Fear
St. Vitus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the dark recesses
Of your little mind
It's getting near my time
I begin to breathe
Flow through your veins
As the bloody rivers
I am growing stronger
You'll never be the same
If you think I'm nothng
You better think again
You will never win
Once you get me started
When you're all alone
You'll feel me inside you
Common sense will leave

Then you're mine to own
I'm part of you
I know you do
Feel me
Feel me
You shake everyday

And it gives me pleasure
Now you're sweating ice
To watch your world decay
As you split your seams
And your nerves are shot

You cannot face the world
All control is lost

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the St. Vitus's song "Fear" revolve around a dark, sinister entity that resides within the human psyche. The entity is personified and constantly refers to itself as "I". It is portrayed as a powerful and all-consuming force that grows stronger within a person as it feeds off their fear and anxiety. The entity appears to be in total control, and it is irresistible to resist its influence once triggered. It corrupts the individual, leading to their total destruction as they lose all control of themselves, resulting in decay and ultimately leading to a complete breakdown.

The song's opening lines refer to the "dark recesses" of the human mind, where the entity resides. As it grows, it causes the individual to feel as if their control over themselves is slipping away, and it becomes a part of them, a force they can't escape from. The chorus suggests how the entity takes over and corrupts the individual fully, leading to them being consumed by it, and all sense of control is lost, leading to the subsequent decay.

Armando was a damned good drummer, so underrated. RIP brother. This song kicks ass

@JackEksteen

Wish i'd know him

@mikeynoclass8240

He had that kind of lazy, behind the beat style that you either have or you don't. He was a natural and a huge part of the Vitus sound.

@HOLYPARISHOFDOOM

Dude was smooth... check out all the difficult fast playing he does in White Stallions and Hallow's Victim!

You know what, I've heard & read a lot of 'critics' complain about certain bands/albums/songs etc, effectively telling ME (& YOU) what to think/listen to/buy/watch etc. Over the years, I've come to realise that 'critics' have only ONE thing to contribute to 'music' - THEIR opinions (& - as I was once told by a lovely old geezer 'Opinions are like a***holes : everybody's got one'). Those that can, play : those that can't, criticise. Paraphrasing Dave Chandler himself : 'If you think you've got a good song, don't listen to anyone else, just play it'. I think this is one of the GREATEST St Vitus songs & I don't care who knows it. Thanks for posting.

Mark Outram its the best

@baax

Well said Mark! It's very easy to be a critic, creating something, anything is much harder.
