A popular trio from the city of Trondheim - the capital city of Norwegian Hard Rock. Stage Dolls quickly earned themselves a strong reputation for producing an authentic, glossy American sound married to some exceptional songs. The group's original line-up featured drummer Erlend Antonsen for the debut 'Soldiers Gun' record, produced by Bjørn Nessjø¸ at Nidaros Studios in Trondheim in the Autumn of 1982. Alongside the core personnel of vocalist / guitarist Torstein Flakne, previously a member of The Kids, the ex-Hot Lips duo of bassist Terje Storli and Erlend Antonsen, 'Soldiers Gun' also incorporated a guesting Gunnar Anders Berg with a guitar solo on the track 'Ten Tons' and keyboards courtesy of Bård Svendsen.
The first album was a self financed affair, which at first provoked little interest from the record companies. However, Polydor would be intrigued enough to ask for a potential single resulting in the track 'Soldiers Gun'. Subsequently a deal was struck. Touring across Norway in December of 1984 had the band acting as openers to TNT and having generated fan enthusiasm on the live circuit 'Soldiers Gun' soon surpassed the 20,000 sales mark.
Their first members were guitarist and vocalist Torstein Flakne, bassist Terje Storli and drummer Erlend Antonsen. In 1985 Antonsen left the band and was replaced by Steinar Krokstad. In 1993, Krokstad was replaced by Morten Skogstad. Stage dolls is known for their glam-80s rock sound and has played at every stage in Norway. In the late 80s Stage Dolls toured in the US. Their single "Love cries" went top 3 in the "Album Rock Charts" and no.46 in the Billboard Singles Charts. Now they're back touring Norway all year. Their last album is 2004's "Get a Live" which is a live album based on their 20th Anniversary Concert in their hometown Trondheim.

Dancing in the morning sun, baby
Like the moon, we've been up all night
Pretending everythings all right
Heaven knows we're like fire and light, baby
You hold me like I would run away, baby
I can't give you a promise i'll stay, baby
And how I treat you is so unfair
Girl I have taken more than I can bare
I know I love you
I tell you I now
Love don't bother me, don't bother me
(love don't bother me)
Love don't bother me, don't bother me
love don't bother me, don't bother me
(don't bother me at all)
In a while I'm gonna leave you alone.
You say time will kill the pain when I'm gone, baby
From the moment I woke up and you're gone
hoping for some miracle cure
You say boy with this you can't be sure
This means forever, it's now or never
Love don't bother me, don't bother me
(don't bother me)
Love don't bother me, don't bother me
Love don't bother me, don't bother me
(don't bother me at all)
And we're dancing to the beat of the drum, baby
dancing in the morning sun
And I'm fighting with a worried man
There's a moment when you cross the line
Is it love? I've got a feeling this time
Nothing's forever, it's now or never
love don't bother me, don't bother me
Love don't bother me, dont bother me
Love don't bother me, don't bother me
(don't bother me at all)
Love don't bother me,don't bother me
Love don't bother me, don't bother me at all...
The lyrics of Stage Doll's Love Don't Bother Me could be perceived as a bittersweet love song that explores the complexities of love and the struggles of committing to a relationship, yet being afraid of the possibility of hurt and pain. The opening lines set the tone for the song, as the singer describes dancing to the beat of the drum with their lover, basking in the morning sunlight. However, by the sixth line, the truth seeps out: they are pretending everything is okay, and the relationship is almost like fire and light, unpredictable and dangerous.
In the second verse, the singer admits to their fear of commitment, telling their lover that they cannot promise they will stay. This vulnerability is immediately followed by the lover blaming them for not caring and treating them unfairly. The singer comes clean, admitting that they have taken more than they can bear, and acknowledging that they love the other person, but they cannot be certain of what the future holds. They continue to repeat the refrain, "Love don't bother me, don't bother me," emphasizing their nonchalance towards the idea of love.
The bridge is a turning point, expressing the tension between coming and going in a relationship. The singer acknowledges that they will be leaving soon and understands that time will help their lover heal, but the uncertainty of the future remains. The song ends with the question of whether or not what they feel is love or just a fleeting feeling. It is a poignant and honest depiction of the complicated nature of relationships, where love can both uplift and terrify a person.

This song found me in 1996 during my senior year of high school. This song said all the words I felt about a girl I liked a lot. To this day, it still takes me back to that place when I hear it. Incredible song. How was this not the biggest song in America back in 1991?

I've always said this was one of the most underrated songs of that time period. Great lyrics. Great sound. Great melody. Great story in the song. Yet, Stage Dolls didn't get much airplay. Such a shame. They really could have been something special in America.
@chaddeez8446
MTV and the times. They had to depress us. Well Bush Sr. was in office and trying to take out sadam for oil and territory. Very depressing times like right now and all the propaganda repeating again...
@jtmichaelson
Found these guys working at a Florida FM rock station in 1989. We'd gotten the promo CD for "Lorraine" and I fell instantly in love with the song. However, they never made our playlist. "Love Cries" got an on-air spin for just a week. When we were doing our annual clearout of music, my PD gave us the abandoned CDs and I took home the "Lorraine" CD promo single and their self-titled (apparent US Debut) disc on Chrysalis Records, and since then I've collected all things Stage Dolls. But Stripped is my favorite album. "Life In America" is my second favorite on that one after "Love Don't Bother Me". But their most amazing song is "Hard To Say Goodbye". Why they never took off here in North America is both a mystery and a shame. These guys are the best at what they do.
One side note: As a huge "All Things Springsteen" fan, I watched Little Stevie's "Lilyhammer" series and in one scene at a nightclub this very song was playing in the club. It was a tiny shock to my system hear that on a relatively known TV show here in the U.S.
@shawnpooley
A travesty they weren't bigger. I discovered them in 1989 too with the Love Cries video on MTV. I wore that tape and album out. Love Cries is my favorite song, killer riff. I'm in radio too, and I have spinned them three times on my show this year.

#JTMichaelson Did you know that Torstein, the singer
formed Stage Dolls after be in another Norwegian band, called The Kids? The Kids singer, Dag Ingebritsen is the founder of TNT, where Tony Harnell was vocalist. What a great voice Tony had btw.
