The AT150, is back!
This is the original pressing from early the 60's
Back in that time most of Stereo Mix Recording were unstable. So this recording is good!
So the Alto Saxo is really Alto (High Volume) :D
As usual, Very nice video too!

I think that during the 60s they were euphoric with this stereo thing.
Many recordings from this period have extreme stereo!
This audio-technica 150mlx is an old friend of this channel, i have a lot of old videos made with it.

Oh yeah, I am very familiar with the extreme stereo, putting all instruments on one side, and all vocals on the other, and things like that... This one didn't seem silly like many of the extreme examples, but it sure sounds good! I love the 150mlx, it's been on my want list for several years!

The 150mlx is now discontinued, but the more recent range from AT seems to be very nice too, although maybe a bit different in character.
The 150 has a smooth mid range with slightly recessed vocals. From what i heard here on Youtube, the new ones seem to sound a bit more vivid on the mids.

Yeah, I think the new ones sound good, but the vintage one sounds amazing. The slightly recessed mids make the highs pop that much cleaner in comparison. While there are those who say that's a flaw, and that all frequency response should be identical, I'm not one of them. I love the pop! :D

Some people search for "realism" on a vinyl setup, and i don't have nothing against it because realism could sound very impressive - recognizing the tone of an instrument like if it was right beside us, is impressive - but i don't mind a bit of "colour" in the sound too, after all, that's why we like to have several cartridges, we like to enjoy several audio renditions of the same music. And besides, i'm not really sure if we can talk about realism on vinyl records, maybe the master tape is the only one which has the sound as the artist or producer intended, all the rest are derivatives which add their own colour.
There are good recordings and bad recordings, and some cartridges are better than others, but the nice thing about vinyl is that we can chose our favorite flavour of audio. At least to some extent, there is no right or wrong, there's the way i like it, and the way YOU like it!

Se escucha muy bien a pesar de las limitaciones de la época. Hay que considerar que las mezclas guardaban otra estética si la comparamos con las de hoy día.El saxo está casi en la cara del oyente!

Hello Roberto. Yes, they've put the saxophone in your face, LOL.
And that's partly the reason why i chose the AT150 for this video, because this cartridge has a smooth and recessed midrange, all the other cartridges sound very harsh and screechy with this disc. This old disc is also difficult to track, and again, the audio-technica excels on that department.
And yes, this kind of music is a favorite of this channel, that's true.

We have Stan Getz as a jazz sax player, and then, we have Stan Getz playing jazz, bossa nova style. And the latter is the one i heard for the first time in the early 90s, and i became a fan since than.
