feel the fire burning inside of me
never fades away never fades away
too much of a good thing will lead to suffering
too much of a good thing can be a ball and chain
didn't want to fall down again today that's how it goes
too much of a good thing will lead to suffering
too much of a good thing can be a ball and chain
can you feel it feel it the way i feel tonight
can you feel it feel it now everything's alright
feel the fire burning inside of me stronger today
i know this affliction is killing me
never fades away never fades away
The lyrics of Stereo Fuse's song "Ball and Chain" depict a common phenomenon that people often face - an addiction to something that gives pleasure but ultimately leads to suffering. The lyrics talk about feeling a burning desire inside that gradually grows stronger each day, but despite the realization that it's leading to destruction, the person cannot let go of it. They fear falling down again and failing, but at the same time feel like they're burning out and fading away because they're unable to control themselves. The lyrics suggest that it's possible to feel like a prisoner to one's own pleasure, and that too much of a good thing can be a ball and chain.
The song has a rather dark tone to it as it explores the guilt and pain that come with addictive behavior. However, the chorus offers a glimmer of hope. It asks if the listener can feel the way the singer feels, and emphasizes that once the addiction is recognized and addressed, everything can be alright. In this sense, the song works as a cautionary tale while also offering a message of hope to those who may be struggling.
