Darker Than Blood
Steve Aoki feat. Ray Kurzweil Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Don't you hold your breath
Cause I'm not coming down
The battlefields have left me only scars
I'm floating in the dark
I'm swimming in the sound
Of voices that should never been apart

Darker than the blood
Higher than the sun
This is not the end
You are not the only one

Venom on their tongues
They'll paint it on the walls
Justice doesn't have the strength to hold
The higher than they climb
The harder they will fall
And we will break their bones until they fold

Ah, oh
Ah, oh
Ah, oh
Ah, oh
Ah, oh
Ah, oh
Ah, oh
Ah, oh

Darker than the blood (Darker than the blood)
Higher than the sun (Higher than the sun)
This is not the end (This is not the end)
You are not the only one (You are not the only one)

This is not the end
(You are not the only one)
You are not the only one
(Higher than the sun)
(This is not the end)
This is not the end

(You are not the only one)
You are not the only one

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of the song "Darker Than Blood" by Steve Aoki and Linkin Park are an invitation to the listener to let go and get lost in the moment. The singer is floating in the dark and swimming in the sound of the voices. The voices represent a sense of community, of shared pain and triumph. The scars of the battlefields have left their mark on the singer, but they are not alone in their experiences. The chorus speaks to the universality of pain and the persistence of life. The blood might be dark, but it flows nonetheless. The sun might set, but it will rise again. The end is not yet here. The singer is not the only one experiencing the darkness.

The second verse takes a turn towards the political. The venom on their tongues represents the lies and deceit of the powerful. They paint their propaganda on the walls to deceive the masses. Justice does not have the strength to hold against the powerful, but the singer is not backing down. The higher they climb, the harder they will fall. The call to break their bones until they fold represents the desire to see justice done. The repetition of "ah, oh" in the background represents a sense of urgency and a call to action.
