Will never, EVER forget this. The laugh was, of course, that he was being so sanctimonious about the commercialization of the King Tut exhibit and here he was doing it himself right in front of us. That and the funky dance makes this one of the best jabs I've ever seen. Love ya, Steve Martin!

This is my all time favorite SNL skit! Every time I watch it, I see something else I never noticed. Love the fact all the musicians are dressed in the costumes and of course, the sax player painted gold coming out of the sarcophagus. The women dancers and Steve Martin with his moves and the lyrics! I had a small party at my house when this first aired. The Tut exhibit had just come to town, and, earlier in the evening, some of us had discussed going to see it. After we consumed a few bottles of fine wine, we turned on SNL, and this skit appeared on live TV. No exaggeration - a couple of us fell out of our chairs. We laughed and shook until tears rolled down our faces.

Those of you alive and cognizant then know what he was referencing was "Tut Fever"...King Tutankamen went from museum to museum, with long lines waiting to see the crypt of the boy king. My sophmore art class took a field trip of about 300 miles to see it in KCMO.
SNL in the late 70's was comedy gold.

I always think of my friend Heidi when I hear this song or watch the video. When it came out, she was teaching me to drive stick shift and we were out practicing. This song came on while we were stopped at a red light. She got out of the car and danced around it for at least the first 3rd even after the light had turned.
