Rooms On Fire
Stevie Nicks Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Somewhere out in the back of your mind
Comes your real life and the life that you know
It seems like it was the creation of some of those same old things
It seemed to be the only thing left out in the light
She had trusted many
But been unfamiliar with
Almost everyone but you
Well maybe I'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire
Everytime that you walk in the room
Well there is magic all around you, if I do say so myself
I have known this much longer than I've known you

She had trusted many
And then there would be someone who would enter into her presence
That she could sense for miles
She dreamed of her wanton luxury
And she laughed and she cried and she tried to taunt him
And he hated to be separated
From that picture No

Well maybe I'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire
Everytime that you walk in the room
Ooh, well there is magic all around you, if I do say so myself
Well I have known this much longer than I've known you

Long nets of white cloud my memory
Long nets of white cloud my memory
Ooh there is magic all around you
Everytime you walk in the room

Well maybe I'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire
Everytime that you walk in the room

Well there is magic all around you, if I do say so myself
Well I have known this much longer than I've known you

Overall Meaning

In "Rooms of Fire," Stevie Nicks describes the complex and mysterious nature of a person who brings magic and intensity into every room they enter. The lyrics suggest that this person may be a dreamer, someone who has trusted many but is unfamiliar with almost everyone except for the singer of the song. The line "she dreamed of her wanton luxury" could be interpreted as an expression of a desire for something unattainable, or perhaps as a reflection on the complexity of this person's inner life.

The chorus of the song, in which Nicks repeats the phrase "Well maybe I'm just thinking that the rooms are all on fire / Every time that you walk in the room," suggests that this person has an almost mystical quality that ignites passion and imagination. The repeated use of the word "magic" further emphasizes the idea that this person has an otherworldly quality that is difficult to describe.

Overall, "Rooms of Fire" is a song about the intense and enigmatic nature of human connections. Nicks paints a picture of a person who is both captivating and elusive, and the song's haunting melody and poetic lyrics make it a powerful expression of the complex emotions that arise when we encounter someone who truly captures our imagination.

I met her once. She omits this light, I can’t even really describe it. It’s like being in the presence of an angel. I got very emotional. She is very kind, down to earth and LOVES her fans. This is one of my favorite and most underrated songs of hers. I used to play it on repeat in my car. I’ve been blessed to see her many times, with FM and solo. I’ve always been obsessed with her fashion sense. She’s more beautiful today than she was in the 70’s - and she has ALWAYS been stunning. Beautiful inside and out 💜

I get the impression from interviews that she truly appreciates her fans as integral to what she does 🥰🥰

Hard to imagine a shaman getting hooked on blow, but I never heard anything about her rehabbing. Having detoxed myself, my ears tend to perk up at hearing celebs joining the club, but it seems Ms. Nicks did it the same way I did booze, do it ALL until you don't want anymore, then kick. I don't know how many women Stevie helped me seduce, but it was definitely a non-single-digit number, bless her.
