Introducing himself as Stevie Wonder

I was blessed to be raised in the west side of Detroit
Grateful for growing up in West Side, Detroit

I lived on Breckinridge, that was the first home that we lived in
Recalling his first home on Breckinridge

My neighborhood, where I was raised up
Referring to the neighborhood where he grew up

When the girls came around
Talking about girls that used to come around

I would sing on the front porch, beating on the stairs
Recollecting himself singing on the porch and beating stairs

And singing for hours and hours upon hours
Emphasizing on singing for several hours

Seeing a piano for the first time, but the amazing thing as well is through those experiences
First time he encountered a piano and learned things through such experiences

I was able to understand how my being blind, because my mother allowed me to be free
Acknowledging the mother's contribution towards his freedom despite being blind

Didn't mean that I had to be blind to the world
Stating that being blind didn't stop him from experiencing the world

I may have had a visual disability but did not stop my vision inside me
Having a vision from within despite a visual disability

I didn't know what it was like being poor because God had made me rich
Claiming that he wasn't aware of being poor as he was rich in spirit

Even before I was born
He felt rich even before his birth

Rich was the spirit of knowing that anything you imagined
Feeling rich by knowing that anything imagined could be a reality

That's for the good, is possible to be a reality
Believing that good things could be turned into reality

Because a few weeks before I was discovered, I had a dream
Stating a dream he had before he was discovered

That I heard my music, my record on the radio
Dreaming about hearing his music on the radio

I had nothing out, no one knew who I was, and, um, amazing, it really happened
It was incredible to see his dream come true without even being recognized

And so, you know it's, I can say to other young people as I said to my son Kailand
Inspiring young people to believe in their dreams as he did with his own son

I said listen, what you don't understand is that
Trying to convey something significant to the younger generation

God gave you a brand even before you were born
Explaining that everyone has a unique quality since birth

All you had to do in life is walk into it
Encouraging to embrace their qualities and achieve their dreams
