I'm 65 years old and was crazy about the club music of the day ( and night ' till closing time of 3am !!! ) and it still gives me goosebumps ! lt would rock your whole body when it was played in the clubs with huge speakers and color sparkles off thedisco ball floating all over the dancefloor and that deep base thumping beat ! l'm there ! we would spend 2 hours getting ready to go out to the clubs ! we all got along and we all had a ball !!!!!!!!

I'm 51, so I was like 7 years old when it went out and in end 80's early 90's we were having big parties in a friend's basement with like club's setting, big speakers, light show, smoke machine, backlight etc... and when we were playing that song all the girls were on the floor dancing, it was a huge hit every time... 1979. Whyalla, Australia. I was in my final year (matric) at High School and on 'the Edge of Seventeen' see what I did there..? 😁 when the phenomenal and beautiful, Amii dropped this song. It was on the radio, constantly, along with two other massive songs of 1979, Hot Suff and Bad Girls, by the Queen 👑 Donna Summer. I remember, these and Knock On Wood being played at our end of year, school social, a fabulous night at the massive school hall and we all went dressed nice, not like these overblown, ridiculously costly, Prom nights. Oh, yeah? Well I was 12 years old in a top "Ruta Hidalgo" Mexico City middle school at that time.
My classmates in the nearby "vecindades" (small communal living) would throw disco / tropical parties. Mexican society has always been liberal af in some ways. We got down to this stuff and the parents joined in: Le Freak, Boogie Oogie, You Should Be Dancing, Disco Inferno, Dancing Queen, I Feel Love, Get Off, I Will Survive, Play That Funky Music, Fly Robin, I Feel Like Dancing, etc.

I never saw this video until many years later. I got a K-Tel album for Christmas in 1979 that had this song on it and I couldn't get enough of it. I was 9 at the time but it's one of those songs I never stopped loving. Much better than the original, for damned sure.

Girl could really sing, and it's a shame more of her genuinely live performances aren't showcased on here. I could only find the (partial) one in Chile in 1979, and she nailed it. Her range easily spans at least four-octaves.

I swear there was a period in the mid-late '90s when every slapstick-oriented comedy film trailer had this song with all the "knocks" synced to amusing injuries. Or maybe it was just one trailer that got lodged in my head to the point I remembered the song everywhere. Either way, I got introduced to this amazing song. 🤩
