Stand By Me
Sting feat. Lady Gaga Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Her friends are so jealous
You know how bad girls get
Sometimes it's not so easy
To be the teacher's pet
Temptation, frustration
So bad it makes him cry
Wet bus stop, she's waiting
His car is warm and dry
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Loose talk in the classroom
To hurt they try and try
Strong words in the staffroom
The accusations fly
It's no use, he sees her
He starts to shake and cough
Just like the old man in
That book by Nabakov
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
The song "Don't Stand So Close to Me" by Sting featuring Eckko talks about the sensitive subject of student-teacher relationships where the young female student has developed a crush on her male teacher who is aware of her feelings yet tries to resist them. The lyrics detail the teacher's struggle to keep his distance from the student while trying to avoid the temptation that she presents. The first verse describes the girl's infatuation with the teacher and how she longs to be with him despite their age difference.
In the second verse, the lyrics touch on the jealousy that the girl's peers feel towards her because of her relationship with the teacher. The chorus, "Don't stand, don't stand so, don't stand so close to me," serves as a warning to the young girl to avoid getting too close to her teacher.
In the final verse, the lyrics detail the difficulties faced by the teacher due to his attraction to the student, including the accusations and rumors that circulate around their relationship. The reference to Nabokov's book "Lolita" only adds to the illicit nature of the relationship.
Overall, the song is a cautionary tale about boundaries in relationships and the serious consequences that can arise when those boundaries are crossed.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon
Is the only
Light we'll see
No, I won't
Be afraid
No, I won't
Be afraid
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me
And darling, darling, stand by me
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me
If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
And the mountain
Should crumble to the sea
I won't cry
I won't cry
No, I won't shed a tear
Just as long
As you stand
Stand by me
And darling, darling stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me, yeah
Whenever you're in trouble
Won't you stand by me?
Oh, now, now, stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me
Darling, darling, stand by me
Stand by me
Oh, stand by me
Stand by me
Stand by me

I love how Lady Gaga sing this song... She is very talented and one of a kind singer. I cried when Michael Jackson died knowing how lucky those people who live in his time and had witnessed all of his God given talents, without thinking I have Lady Gaga of my own time. Indeed, I'll have this story to tell my children.

It is. But if only she could cut all the BS out and stand like a real singer like Sting. She is too over her head. Sting is light years away from her not only by his performance but also as a person. He does not need any motorcycles, feathers or anything around him to show his quality. No need to show off. He is just good. Kind of tired of fake people.
