Monsters
Stone Angus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Billy was a train, driving man
He went from one side to the other side of town
He went to bed with the light
He went to bed with the light

Ride on

He found his struggle with the wind
Something we never, came to understand
He felt lost, in the dark
Even when there was someone, he felt apart

Alone
Alone
Alone

Cause in the, dark
There's monsters, they cry alone
They're waiting
For you to come along, and play
For you to come along, and play

He made his way to the liquor store
Couldn't help but notice, the man at the door
Yeah he did, he caught his eye
He said sir, please a nickel, before I die

Alone
Alone
Alone

Cause in the, dark
There's monsters, they cry alone
They're waiting
For you to come along, and play
For you to come along, and play
And play
For you to come along, and play
And play

Cause in the, the dark
There's monsters, they cry alone
They're waiting
For you to come along, and play

Cause were monsters at heart
At heart, at heart
There's monsters, in their hearts
Their hearts

For you to come along and play
And play
For you to come along
And play

Billy was a train driving man
He got lost, some place in the wind

Overall Meaning

The song "Monsters" by Stone Angus is a haunting ballad that tells the story of Billy, a train driver who seems to be struggling with loneliness and feeling lost. The first stanza of the song describes Billy's routine - going from one side of town to the other and going to bed with the light on. However, the repeated line of "Ride on" hints at the restlessness that Billy feels and his desire to keep moving. The line "He found his struggle with the wind, something we never came to understand" portrays the feeling of isolation that Billy has, as he seems to be grappling with something that nobody else can relate to.

The chorus of the song repeats the theme of loneliness and the metaphor of monsters in the dark, waiting for someone to come along and play. The line "For you to come along and play" is both eerie and melancholic, as it hints at the possibility of danger lurking in the darkness, but also the hope of finding connection and companionship. The second verse introduces another character, a beggar outside a liquor store, who catches Billy's eye. This encounter seems to make Billy feel more acutely aware of his own loneliness, as he realizes that there are others out there who are struggling just like him.

Overall, the song "Monsters" paints a vivid picture of someone who is lost and alone, wandering through a world of darkness and searching for some kind of connection. The repeated chorus and haunting melody capture the feeling of being haunted by one's own demons and searching for a way out of the darkness.

Man, you changed my life. You changed the goal in my life... Cuz why we have to look for sth big for us, have big plans, look for we should do to earn money or be a big person, be somebody? I realised that all what we need to live is being happy. Happiness. We have to find somebody who will make us happy. I found that person already and I wait to meet with him soon again. Few years later we will make our dreams come true, live together and smile to make eachother happy. That's all what I need.

Great video. Real deep and metaphoric... dragged into the woods by old man, chased out by the wild youth, glimpse of forest nymph beauty somewhere between... Good job. Look forward to more from these directors.
