What to Do
Streaplers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Do what you do, do well
Give your love and all of your heart
And do what you do, do well
He couldn't move a mountain
Nor pull down a big old tree
But my daddy became a mighty big man
Do what you do, do well, boy
Do what you do, do well
Give your love and all of your heart
And do what you do, do well
Sometimes he'd kiss my mother
And hold her tenderly
Then he'd look across the top of her head
Then he'd wink and say to me
Do what you do, do well, boy
Do what you do, do well
Give your love and all of your heart
And do what you do, do well
Well, he was a man of laughter
But a tragedy came by
The tears ran free and he'd say to me
Never be afraid to cry
Do what you do, do well, boy
Do what you do, do well
Give your love and all of your heart
And do what you do, do well
Today I still remember
Just like yesterday
'Bout a mighty big man with a mighty big heart
And a mighty few words to say
Do what you do, do well, boy
Do what you do, do well
Give your love and all of your heart
And do what you do, do well
Do what you do, do well, boy
Do what you do, do well
Give your love and all of your heart
And do what you do, do well
Do what you do, do well
The lyrics of Streaplers' song "Do What You Do, Do Well" convey an important message about the value of giving your best in everything you do. The song begins by emphasizing the importance of doing what you do well and putting your heart into it. It suggests that by giving your love and wholeheartedly committing to your actions, you will achieve greatness in your endeavors.
The second verse refers to the singer's father, who despite not having extraordinary physical strength, became a remarkable and influential figure. This is attributed to his simple philosophy of doing what he did well. It highlights the notion that success is not solely based on physical abilities, but rather on dedicating oneself to excellence in their undertakings.
The song's third verse mentions the affectionate relationship between the father and the singer's mother. It describes moments of tenderness and fondness shared between them. The father's actions and words reveal his belief in doing things well and imparting this wisdom to his child.
The fourth verse introduces a tragic event that causes the father to experience deep sadness and shed tears. Nevertheless, he advises the singer to never be afraid of expressing emotions and reminds them to continue doing everything well.
The final verse affirms the impact the father had on the singer's life. Even though the father had few words to say, his actions and philosophy left a lasting impression. The song ends with a reiteration of the chorus, reinforcing the importance of doing things well and giving your best.
Overall, "Do What You Do, Do Well" serves as an uplifting reminder to consistently put effort, love, and dedication into everything one does, regardless of the circumstances.
