2. Structures are a post-rock band from Tamworth, UK. (we’re moving over to Structures (UK) so that people who’re wanting to listen to our particular brand of post-rock aren’t bombarded by the prog metal leanings of Structures (Canada) and vice versa…I’m sure both our fans and theirs will be happy about this. ”Together we are omnipresent, post-rock, white noise, stoner, electonic, glitch, sound, soundscapes, non-scapes, silence, visuals, avant garde, ourselves. Together we stand to make a statement. Together we push the boundries a little further. No compromise.” http://www.structuresband.co.uk/

Structures Lyrics

Where the rest of the world sinks
But I stand still, I never wanted to make a decision
We live like fish in a salt water prison
Hey, hey
When the iron sinks I will swim instead
Why are you waiting for the sky to have its fun?
The clouds don't always block the sun
Don't wait for the world to slip away
I've been standing on top of a thought that exists
Withholding the pain till it's sent to my wrist
As every day grows older, another weight adds to my shoulders
Hey, hey
When the iron sinks I will swim instead
Hey, hey
Take another look inside your head
So who's the one with the mask on?
Cover your face at the thought of rejection
You, you are the one with the mask on
Find your fate before it's too late
Why are you waiting for the sky to have its fun?
The clouds don't always block the sun
Don't wait for the world to slip away (to slip away)
And now I'm staring at the clouds
Let the rain pour down and soak this stable ground
As long as life allows, I'll continue not to make a sound
Get off your feet and fucking move
So who's the one with the mask on?
Cover your face at the thought of rejection
You, you are the one with the mask on
Find your fate before it's too late
Find your fate before it's too late
Get off your feet and fucking move
The lyrics of "Extinction" by Structures depict a sense of detachment and indifference towards the world's uncertainties and struggles. The opening lines, "There's a hole in the center of Earth, where the rest of the world sinks," paint a picture of a chaotic and crumbling world. The singer, however, remains passive and indecisive, refusing to engage or take action. This is emphasized with the line "I stand still, I never wanted to make a decision," showcasing a sense of apathy and resignation.
The imagery of living "like fish in a saltwater prison" suggests a feeling of confinement and suffocation within a harsh and unforgiving environment. The metaphorical comparison to fish highlights a lack of agency and freedom, further reinforcing the theme of being trapped and unable to escape. The defiance in the line "When the iron sinks I will swim instead" hints at a desire to resist and challenge the status quo, despite the overwhelming odds.
The repeated question, "Why are you waiting for the sky to have its fun?" questions the passivity and inaction of the listener, urging them to seize control of their destiny instead of waiting for external forces to dictate their lives. The mention of withholding pain until it manifests physically on the wrist conveys a sense of internal struggle and suppression, with each passing day adding to the burden carried by the singer.
The call to "get off your feet and fucking move" serves as a rallying cry for empowerment and action, urging the listener to break free from their metaphorical mask of fear and conformity. The urgency to "find your fate before it's too late" underscores the fleeting nature of time and the importance of seizing opportunities before they slip away. Ultimately, the song's message encourages introspection, defiance against obstacles, and the pursuit of one's destiny amidst a tumultuous and uncertain world.
