SOS
Sue and the Hufflepuffs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

i didn't sit down here to write a song for you tonight
you know things don't always go the way i plan
the muse she won't cooperate
and i have to pick up what she hurls my way
so i started once and i started twice
then erased it all cuz it wasn't nice and
with the country fighting how many wars
and the capitalist myth convulsing on the floor
this is not what i thought i had to say
but its best not to fight with the goddess you know
so here we go

so when you nudged me at the acceptance speech
when barak obama said
his lesbian sisters deserved to live life free
for a minute i thought maybe i'd been forgiven
and should ask you but you see
i started once and started twice
and then i got nervous and i chewed some ice
now the christian right is having fits
about the judges in connecticut
saying folks deserve their rights even if their gay
using legal code to judge law you know
so here we go

you can tell me about your therapist
and i'll raise you with my mom
we all look for help to understand
and i know tonight wasn't meant to be a test
but i can make meaningless small talk with the best
so i chatted once and i muttered twice
and i made damn sure that i stayed polite
you keep walking out and in the door
leaving love convulsing here on the floor
and i know you don't want to hear what i've got to say

best not to fight with the goddess you know
so here we go

Overall Meaning

In "SOS," Sue and the Hufflepuffs sing about the struggles of finding inspiration to write a song. The lyrics suggest that despite their initial plan to write a song for the night, their creativity is not cooperating, and she has to work with what comes out. They acknowledge the issues of the world happening around them, including wars and the capitalist myth. These events weren't what they thought they had to say but decided not to fight with the goddess and let the lyrics come out.

The song continues by addressing the acceptance speech of Barack Obama, where he mentioned how his lesbian sisters deserved to live their life free. Upon hearing it, the songwriter thought that maybe they were forgiven and could ask for help. But the songwriter got nervous and couldn't bring themselves to speak up. The Christian right is also mentioned, having fits regarding the judges in Connecticut, saying that people deserve their rights even if they're gay, emphasizing the importance of legal code in judging the law.

The last part of the lyrics talks about two people conversing about their problems. One person speaks about their therapist, while the other talks about their mom. It highlights how everyone seeks help to understand their problems. The songwriter tried to make small talk and stay polite but emphasized that it's best not to fight with the goddess.

The improv from Andrew and Bobby gets taken to another level whenever Jules is around 😂

@SadBoys.1996

They have to, because she adds nothing to the podcast and never has

@Ash-cb2li

@@SadBoys.1996 bobby and andrew are comedians it’s their show. Rudy’s there for them to bounce off of and make funny bits out of which is better. Juicy acts like she’s a third host

@N3onDreamz

@@SadBoys.1996 ratio, Jules rules

@SadBoys.1996 cheer up and be nice 😘😘

@jjg2243

@@Ash-cb2li I agree. I prefer Rudy's Dynamic and Docs was just as good in a different way.

Rudy brings the best of Andrew and Bobby. So happy to see her.

@kanedolo

Rudy makes bobby and andrew tap into their comedic power like no other.. so many good bits in this episode. They got their groove back soon as rudy walked in

@Romey1son

Yeah because Rudy brings nothing to the show so they have to compensate. Can't even think of one joke shes made, she just is the joke.

@ikakarote

@@Romey1son at least it's way better than giving jetski pity laughs for her "jokes". She tries way to hard to be funny and interject herself, but she is not funny. With Rudy, the guys can flow much better. We don't need a third "comedian". Let the guys do their thing. jetski gets in the way. I cannot stand when she is on, and that dumb laugh every five minutes is super irritating.
