Global interest in Boyle was triggered by the contrast between her powerful voice and her plain appearance on stage. The juxtaposition of the audience's first impression of her with the standing ovation she received after her performance led to an international media and Internet response. Within nine days of the audition, videos of Boyle — from the show, various interviews, and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River" — had been watched over 100 million times, an online record. Despite the sustained media interest, she later finished in second place in the final of the show, behind dance troupe Diversity.
Boyle's first album, I Dreamed a Dream, was released on 23 November 2009, and has become Amazon's best-selling album in pre-sales. Its first single is a cover of the Jagger/Richards song "Wild Horses." The album includes "You'll See," "I Dreamed a Dream," and "Cry Me a River." According to Billboard, "The arrival of "I Dreamed a Dream" ... marks the best opening week for a female artist's debut album since SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991."

To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I have a dream
I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness still another mile
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
I'll cross the stream
I have a dream
The song "Dream A Dream" by Susan Boyle is an inspiring ballad about believing in oneself and overcoming obstacles. The lyrics express the singer's desire to find hope and strength in music and to use it as a tool to help her navigate the challenges in life. She believes in the power of imagination, fairy tales, and the existence of angels. The song encourages the listener to see the good in everything, and to keep pushing forward, even when the road ahead seems dark and uncertain.
The repeated phrase "I have a dream" echoes the words of Martin Luther King Jr., who famously said, "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." The song similarly suggests that we must dream big and believe in ourselves, even when others doubt us.
Overall, "Dream A Dream" is a song of hope and encouragement, reminding us that there is always light at the end of the tunnel, and that we can overcome any obstacle if we believe in ourselves.

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I prayed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hopes apart
And they turn your dream to shame
Still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

Susan Boyle is the definition of "don't judge a book by its cover". She made everyone eat their words the second she started singing. Truly an inspiration.
@thegreenmanofnorwich
When she came out in that audition and people pulled faces at her with her beige dress and being (le gasp) 47, it was all rather sad that people had already mostly written her off before she opened her mouth. Then she was funny and a bit flirty and people warmed to her. Then she let loose and the cleaning staff must have been picking jaws off the floor that evening
