I’m 2 hours in and I’m still unclear as to what exactly Josh needed to take accountability for in terms of his participation with Colleen. The Miranda content and shows he participated in that “got worse and worse” seemed really vague and I didn’t know what exactly he was referring to that he did wrong. I can understand him apologizing for not putting a stop to COLLEEN’s perverted actions at her shows, but in terms of his own, I’m still lost.

As for his own YT channel, him making a silly honeymoon video joking about his wife’s hands being down his pants? K? They were married and on their honeymoon. Why are they both making it seem like he committed some awful crime?

And as for occasionally going undercover in the chats to see what fans were saying about him/his content… k? Aren’t Beyoncé fans always joking on twitter about her supposedly having a secret burner account to spy on them and keep up with what they’re saying? It’s seen as funny and humorous, not “creepy.”

(Bc of course people of influence probably do that from time to time out of curiosity.)

And generally speaking, let’s face it: we are ALL guilty of lurking on each other on social media. It just is what it is, we live in the age of the internet. But I don’t see any REAL serious lines or boundaries being crossed here.

Again, I still don’t see why his minor moments of lack of foresight/appropriateness is being blown out of proportion as him being “creepy” in some sort of p*dophile way. It seems to me like he would go into tinychat from time to time to interact or lurk for a few minutes out of curiosity, nothing more nothing less.

It’s not like he was in the chat rooms asking his young fans when they got their first periods or if they’d had sex like Colleen was!

I have yet to see anything serious so far in these 2 hours that legitimately needs to be apologized for on Josh’s part so I’m very confused. 🤨🤔

Also, Swoop bleeped out whatever it was that the fan had said happened with Josh in the hotel room that made her uncomfortable so we don’t even have the ability to clearly understand what happened, so I’m not sure why it was even included in this…? It makes things even more confusing. What exactly did he do to her that made her uncomfortable? And in what way was she uncomfortable? Like as in she felt violated by him? Because it didn’t seem like it.

Anyway all that said, I feel like Josh over-apologizing is actually part of the problem. He’s been painting himself and his actions out to be WAY worse than they actually are with the constant apologizing, and that is being used against him to tarnish his image.

I will keep watching and see if my thoughts change by the end because maybe I’m missing something, but from my perspective, he seems like more of a victim in all of this and is clearly not the monster he’s been made out to be.

And honestly if someone came out to me in a public setting, I'd probably react like Josh did. I also wouldn't tell someone to endanger themselves (real or not.)

I also don't find the tiny chat thing that weird. It's a public forum. It was a weird time on the internet and people did weird cringe things, but by all regards there were other adults and it was public.

If Josh is guilty of anything it's marrying Colleen and that's not something he needs to apologize for.

I think this is a great interview! You weren't soft and that's what's needed for sure. I'm glad he takes accountability for his part in everything- which not many people do in general, let alone when they have someone like Colleen who can come at them with pure evil! He seems like he's committed to changing for the better. That means a lot. No one is perfect- we all do dumb shit at some point in our lives. He's admitting he did dumb shit and wants to be held accountable. Not everyone does that.

I do have a comment about stage crew not saying "This is wrong- you can't do that." I am stage crew. We would lose our jobs and our opinions mean nothing. I have worked a Miranda show before. If I'd said I want her to stop, I would've been sent home. We work shows we don't like all the time for assholes we don't like. We have no voice in putting an end to a show. Not unless someone is committing an OSHA safety violation. Then we can speak up.

It's up to the producers to stop a show if they think it's inappropriate- which they won't do if it's making them money, cuz that's how this industry works. It's all about the money.

It's also up to the promoter reps. I think Outback was the promoter for the show I worked and they are no longer promoting anything that has anything to do with Colleen now. THEY could have stopped a show before it even happened. But they didn't at the time.

So please don't blame the stage crew for not speaking up or running across the stage during a show and screaming "Stop the show! This is inappropriate!" Seriously- if one of us did that, we would be sent home immediately and never get called to work another show again. Most of us are freelance. We can't risk doing something like that or we won't have food on our tables or be able to pay rent. Just wanted to explain that a bit from a stagehand's POV.

As a recovering alcoholic and survivor of suicidal ideation and abuse myself, i have to say that watching Josh handle this interview with such grace, such honesty (flaws, bad past behavior and all) and such compassion for self and others was genuinely helpful to me in my recovery. Thank you, Swoop, for platforming someone who seems to be genuinely trying to be a healthier person and apologize for the hurt and damage he’s caused with past actions (such as the racist videos). He came off as a person who is willing to change for the better, to listen to others and to grow, and i have to say I’ve been in a dark place lately and watching this interview i felt that Josh was a role model to me in my own recovery from alcoholism and everything else. Josh was absolutely stalked by a fan who was obsessed with him and who felt like he was the most important person in the room: Johnny. His entire demeanor is so far above Johnny, and so completely opposite of Johnny’s arrogance and attention-addicted performance, it’s stark. Johnny is the creepy fan who feels Josh was too ordinary for Colleen, but should have chased Johnny so he could show Josh that he could worship him if he took him along for the fame. I am a therapist. Joshua David Evans has shown here how abuse happens by a thousand tiny cuts that no one sees, how boundaries are pushed incrementally slowly and how this becomes normalised, how stressful cognitive dissonance is when the safety and success of so many areas of your life feel like they are on the line. I can see how much complex rationalisation he was putting himself through and how, at times, when 2 ideals clashed (eg wanting to please his wife when he felt "less than" in the relationship and wanting to please the fans even when he was aware it felt "off") and how he found himself simply accepting the unacceptable in order to get through that moment.

Living at this level of constant psychological stress eventually becomes traumatic. Its too much to live with that level of hypervigilence. So I admire his ability to acknowledge his misdemeanours and accept them without making excuses. That must be an incredibly uncomfortable thing to have to turn and face publicly.

I think this was a very good interview by Swoop. I hope Joshua is able to find peace within himself going forward because it sounds like he's been to hell and back.

"...a thousand tiny cuts that no one sees..." That's so validating to my experience. While nothing related to this situation or that intense, I have struggled a lot with my experiences being invalidated because there weren't any big events in my life that caused trauma, but rather many repeated small things that happened as a kid. It wears you down, you get to a point when you're just trying to not make it worse, and hoping for whatever way out you can find. I can't imagine how much harder that process would be when you have fans looking to you, and so many more people in your life with expectations and their own ideas being shared. It's hard to stand up for yourself and your goals to move forward, but it's so worth it, and a big step in healing, at least it was for me.

That's very valuable comment. Abuse doesn't have to be this huge event(s). More often than not it's very covert that's why people get confused. If someone beats you society agrees that it's not okay. But other forms of abuse of power get off the radar. It's like it's possible to die from violent attack but it's also possible to die from hemorrhage that we don't feel. The result is the same.

Near brought me to tears more than a few times. That is what real accountability looks like. So proud of him for even being brave enough to set foot on the stage after everything he went through, but to handle it all with such compassion and humility and honesty is mind blowing. He’s clearly done the work and I hope this goes a long way towards securing the peace in his life that he’s worked so hard to carve out.

Also, it broke my heart how earnestly he thanked you for being the only one to even listen and be fair to him in any way publicly. Because you WERE fair and impartial, and you took him to task for the things he did wrong. So many people would take that wrong, thinking that if you’re not all for them then you’re against them. I think there is more than one person involved in this very case that would think that way. But he was just so relieved that you listened to him without completely demonizing him. That said a lot to me. It also said a lot that taking accountability for his own wrongdoings was easier for him than speaking the truth of his experiences. It speaks both to his character and the ongoing trauma that he’s experienced. My heart goes out to him and I wish him well.

I truly believe Josh is genuinely remorseful. That was one of the most sincere interviews I have ever watched. To hear the honesty from this man and then listen to how he still feels the need to almost protect her, just floods back the memories of wanting people to think my relationship is fine.Everything is fine I’m fine mode.

I’ve watched Joshua grow since 2009. I love seeing the person he has become and am so glad that he has Pamela as his angel who also happens to be his wife. To hear him being accused of being a groomer is absolutely disgusting, because I know that is not at all who he was or is, regardless of growing pains that we ALL go through as adults. We all make mistakes, but it infuriates me that anyone would ever suggest that he was inappropriate with minors. Joshua has always had a good heart. I think this is an AMAZING show of “getting swept up in the wrong crowd”. I have been waiting for his redemption since 2016. I was never really a fan of his, or colleen's for that matter, but I watched their videos back in the day. I watched everything unfold after that divorce that was made public but I knew she was a bad person way before that from their vlogs. The way she treated him, the look on her face at their wedding, the horrible digs at him about his career - she was emotionally abusive. It was clear as day that Josh was just this goofy guy who wanted to be a pop star and he got smashed to bits by Colleen. People forget this but I really want to emphasise it - Colleen did not attack Josh publicly directly, ***SHE GOT TRISHA TO DO IT***. Trisha would make horrendous videos slandering Josh as Colleen had fooled her into believing they were besties. The stuff Trisha said was absolutely vile towards Josh with zero evidence. I remember a video he made, very visibly dishevelled and shaken by the whole thing and struggling with rapid weight gain, that he could say A LOT about the situation with Trisha, but he held himself back and said he wasn't going to do it. He said nothing even though he was very much in pain, even when everyone was attacking him, even when it was the time to say EVERYTHING. But he never stooped that low. His integrity went ignored, but I never forgot. I am so glad he is getting heard and that his redemption day has finally come. I'm just some asshole stranger/lurker on the internet, same age-ish as Josh, but I never forgot it and I am so fucking here for this karma. I hope this eases his soul, and that he and Pamela can finally move on.

When Swoop says, "this behaviour, which you were involved in, was really inappropriate and disturbing," and Josh answers with, "you're right, it was unacceptable and should never have happened. Just over halfway through and I really appreciate how Josh seeks to contextualize what he did and why he made certain decisions while also unequivocally condemning those actions. I think while this definitely reflects his character and desire to both be understood and not excuse himself, it also shows Swoop’s strength as an interviewer by letting him get there as he talks and prodding him not to gloss over when necessary.

I feel like I fully understand the feeling of “normalizing” harmful things- just a few years back I was doing the same thing, telling myself “no it’s fine cause I’m a minor” or “it’s fine cause it’s not harming anyone” but it was, it was harming people and it was harming my own mental health. It’s so easy to just tell yourself that something is perfectly fine or ok when it’s not. The only way you can truly move past it is by apologizing, taking accountability, and changing/getting yourself help. I'm so glad he was honest and said "no" when you asked if he forgave her. There's a misconception that you have to forgive your abuser to heal. You don't. Forgiveness is a personal choice and if the person who hurt you hasn't earned your forgiveness there is nothing unhealthy about not giving it to them and you shouldn't feel any shame for not feeling like you can.

How Josh described his relationship with Colleen reminded me of both how my mother treated me/made me feel growing up and my first and only relationship. That kind of treatment really messes with someone, its something I personally don’t think I will ever fully be healed from and ever really talk about. It would be really hard for me to even describe and talk about it so I really appreciate Josh being so open about it. Im sure a lot of people here knows how that feels. I also appreciate how respectful and honestly just the genuineness that Swoop puts into these sorta deep dives. I feel terrible for him. I am in recovery and I have felt everything he’s described in his despair. I believe every single word he’s said. He took accountability and has changed and turned into a good human. I know what he went thru was terrible and I hate the fact that’s it’s all back in his life but he is who he is today bc of this. For the record as a queer person the advice he gave Johnny about not coming out is the exact same I would give in that situation. It is awful that we often have to live in the closet at times but survival comes first. Saying if you are not certain you would be safe to come out while living with parents do not do it until you can comfortably stand on your own two feet is the correct thing to say. Living in the closet sucks but it is better than living on the streets and in the worst scenarios it is better than being killed or assaulted. It is so gross to see that being weaponised against him. Saying make sure your safe first is the responsible thing to tell someone in that situation.

I'm not queer (well, it's a whole thing I'm figuring out) nor have I been put in this situation, but this was my understanding as well. That the recomended steps are always first make sure you're safe, second make sure you have somewhere to flee to or a backup if things go sideways etc. Like... other than the "that's got nothing to do with me" kneejerk, his response seems textbook to the kind of advice you're taught to give.

Josh seems like such a genuinely good-hearted person. I also grew up in a super conservative family and community, and I also had to spend years and years of unpacking and unlearning extremely racist and troubling behaviors and thoughts. It's so hard to look back on that past, but I'm proud of me and Josh and everyone else who has taken the time to unlearn and grow and do better. It's not something many people talk about, and I know it's because it's so embarrassing and unbelievable to know that we talked and acted so horribly. So it's so weirdly cathartic to see someone else talk about their experiences with that growth. Thank you, Josh.

Instead of sensationalizing this story from one perspective, you explored all avenues and asked the hard questions. I appreciate you not sitting in judgement, only presenting facts and personal testimonies. this is quite possibly one of the most incredible interviews ive ever seen. the level of thoroughness, professionalism, respect, and impartiality throughout the entire interview is incredibly refreshing. i also love the fact that joshua has waited this long to seriously break his silence and do it with such a productive and truth-seeking interviewer. this interview has changed my views on the story as a whole and interestingly my view on colleen as well in seeing how much has happened for her mentally and the ways that it made her a destructive person. Definitely stalker activities were performed by Johnny. After listening to all these interviews, that is my opinion on Johnny Silverstri.

I’m so behind on this video, but I have a lot to say. First, Swoop, you did an amazing job with all of this. Gathering all of the info, sitting down and having these tough conversations, and having the courage to do all of this thank you for doing this and thank you to everyone on your team for everything they did.

To Joshua, thank you as well for this very vulnerable interview and everything you have spoken up about. I could see the pain, hurt and even trauma from sharing your side. I fully support and applaud the hard work you have put into yourself and have admitted your mistakes. You can see the change and maturity and that’s how it should be. I hope Josh and his family can find peace and healing as they move forward. I also hope the same to everyone else involved who was affected.

To Colleen, I hope she can do the same. I hope she can own up to her faults, get help in therapy, and learn how heal and realize the impact she had. I don’t think she’s a bad person, I think she’s a deeply hurt and insecure person who needs to work through a lot of things.

This was an amazing way to handle this situation and shows how being open and communicate through things can bring healing. This should definitely be something that more YouTubers should do

This is an amazing interview! I started watching Josh’s channel around the same time that I stumbled upon Colleen’s channel when I was around 12 years old. I always thought he seemed like a very genuine person (which was a big contrast from Colleen) and this interview just goes to prove it. The fact that he was so willing to admit to and learn from his past mistakes is really refreshing and he deserved so much better than what she put him through. Josh, if you ever happen to read this, please know that you’ve made a lot of people really proud of you. I think what Josh is "guilty" of is not stopping Colleen. Which he couldn't have done. There is the racist video, but also (this doesn't excuse it) - have you seen 2010s YouTube? That was the norm. It was not okay however. Josh should not have given Johnny his phone number, however that is something that can be normal in youth group settings. Especially if Josh has the background I think he does. At the same time, I have a teen I mentor and sometimes I have to be the one to reach out on social media to check in (she's good at finding me in person.)

I think Swoop is overlooking Josh's intent and the YouTube culture at the time. Not that it excuses things, but this is lacking some really important context

@@ChristieLily35 Yes, exactly. The CONTEXT behind his actions is a huge part of this that isn’t being talked about enough. Given that he has a Christian upbringing, it’s pretty normal in those circles for youth leaders to give out their phone numbers. I did Young Life in high school and had all my college-aged Youth leaders’ numbers. It really isn’t that weird if you think about the context he was giving Johnny his number in. Johnny on the other hand clearly wanted something more, hence him being angry to this day about Josh telling him it was “none of his business” when he came out to him. And in terms of putting a stop to Colleen’s antics, if Josh is “guilty” of anything, it’s going along with and supporting her for so many years HOWEVER, given that he was her primary victim throughout that entire time, you have to factor that in and understand that he didn’t “STAY” in a relationship with her, he was *TRAPPED* in a relationship with her, and it isn’t that easy. ESPECIALLY if your abuser is responsible for your financial stability. He was being gaslit, manipulated, and coercively controlled the entire time and was in a state of survival himself, so I can understand why he didn’t feel like he could do much to stop what she was doing since it would obviously be weaponized against him if he did.

We need to keep a trauma/CPTSD + abuse informed lens when judging
Josh’s actions. I feel like that isn’t happening as much as it should be because he’s a man and that’s not fair. Just because he’s a man doesn’t mean he’s immune to the effects of narcissistic abuse. And if you’re a narcissistic abuse survivor like I am, you KNOW how hard it is to get out of, let alone overcome.

This was a fantastic interview, you do not often see someone being so completely raw and open, someone whose not trying to gaslight people into listening to them, you can tell that Josh has literally been at the bottom and knows there is no way they can go any lower, I really hope Josh can now move on and be truly happy with his life. Thank you Swoop for providing Joshua the space to share his story. His transparency and willingness to take accountability shows how much he has grown.
