Children Of The Revolution
T-Rex and Marc Bolan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well you can bump and grind
And it's good for your mind
Well you can twist and shout
Let it all hang out

But you won't fool the children of the revolution
No you won't fool the children of the revolution
No, no, no!

Well you can terraplane
In the fallin' rain
I drive a Rolls Royce
Cause it's good for my voice

But you won't fool the children of the revolution...

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to T-Rex and Marc Bolan's song "Children of the Revolution" are an observation on the cultural revolution that was taking place in the late 1960s-early 1970s. The opening lines, "Well you can bump and grind, and it's good for your mind. Well you can twist and shout, let it all hang out," are a nod to the sexual revolution that was happening at the time. Bolan is saying that it's okay to let loose and have fun, but the next lines, "But you won't fool the children of the revolution, no you won't fool the children of the revolution, no, no, no!" imply that the younger generation is not blind to what's really happening.

The following lines, "Well you can terraplane in the fallin' rain, I drive a Rolls Royce cause it's good for my voice," are a reference to the excess and extravagance that was prevalent during the time. Bolan is saying that he can indulge in these luxuries, but the children of the revolution are not impressed. They see through the superficialities and hollow materialism.

Overall, "Children of the Revolution" is a commentary on the cultural changes happening during the time and how the younger generation is not fooled by the trappings of the past.

There time is not too much of importance because no social media that time. Now the music enthusiasts rediscovered them because their music was full of effort than the craft music today.

Ringo is the coolest drummer that ever hit the world. His drumming doesn't need to be flashy because he plays for the song with style and perfect syncopation. Just listen to I Found Out and you'll see what I mean - that punk-ish steady beat driving the melody and supplying some powerful steam to John's raw vocals.
