T.B. Arthur Lyrics

Days working on my future
Feel nothing else is with us
I feel like I'm not worth it
Do I really deserve this?
Come let me focus
I'll make this unnoticed
I'm untitled
Making me unlabeled
Unlabeled
Unlabeled
Unlabeled
Making me unlabeled
Untitled
And Unlabeled
Unlabeled
Unlabeled
Words can make me worth it
I still don't deserve this
Why a title?
When we can be unlabeled
Unlabeled
Unlabeled
We can be
Unlabeled
Untitled
And unlabeled
Untitled
And unlabeled

Facade

This is the moment that saves Arthur.
All his life, he's been a lackey to Dutch, who has filled his head with absolute nonsense to justify raising him to murder, steal and be an evil man.

Dutch did not raise his members like a parent would: raise them to be independent, make their own lives and leave the nest. No, Dutch raised them to never leave him. To be dependent on him emotionally and forever be his children.

Arthur is his most powerful victim, completely dependent on Dutch and loyal. Unlike John who was able to leave the gang for a year to have a child and pursue his own life, Arthur is too deep under Dutch's spell that even when presented the opportunity to marry the woman he loves and build his own family, he chooses Dutch, trying to keep both Dutch and her in his life, which her father of course can't accept. She even says "you will never change" and he won't, Arthur is dependent on Dutch. He is too afraid to let go, too afraid to leave him, manipulated into loyalty. He even scolds John for daring to walk his own path, despite knowing that's what a man should do, and he isn't a man but a child under Dutch, John is a man.

Arthur has spent his life being willfully blind to his failures in life. But during the game, all that is falling apart as the gang begins to fail, the truth pushes itself through to him in all its ugliness. When John tries to discuss the truth with him, Arthur says "dont think about it too much, dont dwell on it" and that's exactly right. That's how Arthur has lived all his life, wilfully blind and dependent on Dutch.

When things begin falling apart, it becomes harder and harder for Arthur to ignore the truth, yet he is too far gone, too dependent on Dutch.

But then, this saves him. Nothing else would have been impactful enough to wake him up. Suddenly his life is over, and all his failures in life fully rush to his head, no longer able to hide them. He walks the streets like in a trance, Dutch had wasted his life. He never got the woman he loved, or the family he wanted, or anything else. His life is over, and what does he have to show for it? Murders and thefts serving some insane violent maniac?

His death is perfect. A perfect end for him. He doesn't die fighting a powerful enemy, or through heroic sacrifice, or due to being betrayed or double crossed. He doesn't die because someone is out to kill him. He dies due to his pure evil and disgusting act of beating a helpless sick man. He dies because of his own evil. There is no one and nothing else to blame for it, not an enemy gang member, not the law, not some rival out to get him, not a betrayal. No one to blame or curse for it. He dies purely because of his own evil, nothing else, but his own failure.

This is the event that allows Arthur to free himself from Dutch. To live at least for a one short moment like a man instead of a servant dog. To have his last moment of glory before the end. That is Arthur Morgan's "redemption".
