PILLS
T.O.C Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
In my mouth
Throw it all away
Just to get back for it
Slide the man away
Strip me of my innocence
Neither pills today
Your love is my weakness
And it's gonna be a shame to see you go
I'll have to make it on my own
But troubles lie ahead for me and you
So put your lips close
Feel my breath on your cheek
Darling know how good we could be
So I can put my love down
So I can know what I coulda give
No need to worry know
I'll be over in a minute
I'll take my time to call you mine
Her hand shakes hastily
You said you couldn't breath
Expose my naivety
Cuz now I can't leave
And I hate that I can't go
Wanted to face it on my own
Cuz troubles lie ahead for me and you
I can't take the pain away
Don't want any pills today
Don't let your mothers life be all you look up to
So I can put my love down
So I can know what I coulda give
No need to worry know
I'll be over in a minute
Can't take my time to call you mine
So I can put my love down
So I can know what I coulda give
And now you gotta worry know
Time isn't unlimited
You take your time
Go find someone nice
And lay your head down
Next to someone who you deserve
Let him worry now
You happiness will always come first
I'll watch as I cry
These tears cease to lie
These tears cease to lie
The lyrics to T.O.C's song "Pills" depict a tumultuous and intense relationship where the singer is struggling with the aftermath of betrayal and heartbreak. The opening lines, "You left a sour little taste in my mouth, Throw it all away just to get back for it," suggest a sense of bitterness and regret. The singer feels stripped of their innocence and vulnerable, as indicated by the line "Strip me of my innocence, neither pills today, your love is my weakness." The use of "pills" can symbolize both literal medication and a metaphor for seeking solace or escape from emotional pain.
As the lyrics progress, there is a realization that the relationship may not be sustainable, with lines like "And it's gonna be a shame to see you go, I'll have to make it on my own, But troubles lie ahead for me and you." The singer yearns for a deeper connection with their partner, expressing a desire for intimacy and understanding with lines such as "So put your lips close, feel my breath on your cheek, Darling know how good we could be."
The conflicting emotions and turmoil in the relationship are further highlighted in the second verse, with lines such as "Her hand shakes hastily, You said you couldn't breathe, Expose my naivety, Cuz now I can't leave." There is a sense of suffocation and complexity in the dynamic between the singer and their partner, leading to a feeling of helplessness and entrapment.
The closing lines of the song convey a sense of acceptance and resignation, as the singer acknowledges the need to move on and find peace. The plea to "lay your head down, next to someone who you deserve, Let him worry now, your happiness will always come first" suggests a bittersweet farewell and a recognition of the importance of self-love and healing. The poignant repetition of "I'll watch as I cry, These tears cease to lie" encapsulates the raw emotions and vulnerability of the singer, as they come to terms with the end of a tumultuous chapter in their life.
