The Vic-E Interpretation
TLC Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the club
People use material things
To increase their chances of a pick up
Such as diamond Rolexes, Prada bags
And Versace outfits
I guess it makes them feel special
In Japan they just two to the one and two

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of TLC's song The Vic-E Interpretation talks about the materialistic nature of people in the club. It highlights how people use material things such as diamond Rolexes, Prada bags, and Versace outfits to increase their chances of being picked up. The use of these things makes the people feel special, as it sets them apart from others who do not have such things. This shows the superficiality of the club culture, where people are judged based on their possessions rather than their personality. The song also provides a contrast between the club culture in America and Japan where people are more interested in dancing and enjoying themselves rather than focusing on material possessions.

The song has a deeper message, which is that people should not be judged based on their possessions but rather on their character. The song also highlights how materialism has consumed society, where people's worth is based on what they own rather than who they are as individuals. TLC urges people to break the cycle of materialism and to focus on what truly matters in life.

I was mesmerized by this when it first came out! I searched for every Mac at any computer store, that had it. And I would go there just to stay in it and use the VICKY text to speech feature. This concept is way ahead of its time

Me too, I used to think Vic-E was actually Left-Eye's voice just in a robot way when I first heard it back in 99

@Vamp ليون My sister told me the same thing (about it being Left Eye, or so she thought) when I was a kid! I was always fascinated with this track when I was young because of the voice and because it was so short lol. I'm pretty sure at one point or another I said this was my favorite TLC "song" when I was like 5.
