AUTOMATIC
T L Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Driving to the crime of the time
I manufacture my mind
Till we stop
Till the real man comes on top
And now you'll really be dropped

Fading in the lane with the brain
That can never be tamed
I got the car
Got the twenty first century car
Well now I know who you are

You're so automatic
The way you bleed
You're so automatic
The things you need
You're so automatic
And you still are

Standing in the field what a deal
Will you get out and kneel
Where you are
Where the blood doesn't get on my car
It's such a beautiful car

Dropping of the shot with the pop
Makes me wonder and stop
What you got
What you really got coming along
And now you really are gone

You're so automatic
The way you bleed
You're so automatic
The things you need
You're so automatic
The way you see
You're so automatic
You're just like me

You're so automatic
And you still are

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of T L's song "Automatic" describe a feeling of being detached and emotionless, as if everything is happening automatically, without any conscious thought or action. The singer is driving to "the crime of the time", possibly alluding to a societal issue or trend that is currently prevalent. They mention "manufacturing" their mind, perhaps indicating that they are trying to numb their emotions or thoughts before arriving at their destination. The phrase "till we stop, till the real man comes on top" may suggest that the singer is waiting for something to happen or for someone else to take control.

As the song progresses, the focus shifts to the car that the singer is driving, a "twenty first century car". The car becomes a symbol of modernity and progress, and is contrasted with the natural world ("standing in the field"). The singer appears to be dissociating from their actions, referring to "the shot with the pop" and wondering what the other person "really got coming along". The repetition of the phrase "you're so automatic" underscores the theme of the song, emphasizing the idea that both the singer and the other person they are referring to are simply going through the motions, without any real agency or purpose.

Overall, the lyrics of "Automatic" paint a bleak picture of modern life, in which people are disconnected from one another and from their own emotions. The car and the crime are symbols of this sense of detachment, illustrating how easy it is to become disconnected from reality and from one's own actions.
