The group is named for Michael Tait's late father, of whom he says "taught me how to appreciate the human experience whether it be a sunny day, a beautiful lawn, or amazing trees set before an amazing mountain. He taught me how to love and embrace mankind, whether it be a Chinese girl hanging out with a black guy whose mom is a white lady." As for the band's mission, Michael Tait says, "...ultimately I hope and pray [people] see the Gospel... People look for so many other ways to fill the emptiness in their lives, and there's just no way to do it besides Christ."
Musically, the band blends the styles of modern rock, pop, funk, soul, and R&B. Michael Tait describes the group as "guitar-toting, drum-slinging rockers." Preceding the release of their 2001 debut album, Empty, Tait performed selections from the project all over the world, including Amsterdam.
All You Got

It's in your eyes, you think that life's unfair to you
Just give it all you got, my friend
Just give it all you got, it's not the end
[Chorus]
'Cause you oughta know
There's a reason for these changin' seasons
So don't you let go
Everybody has their up and down times
Everybody needs to know how much they're loved
My friend
So hold on, it's not the end
As I remember everything you touch
Would turn to gold
You held the secrets
To make your grandest dreams unfold
You were the very best of us all
But the sun that rises still falls
[Chorus]
It's just a love song
'Cause everybody needs a friend
I'll be right here for you
Just a simple prayer
It's from the bottom of my heart
That He'll never let you go
[Chorus]
The lyrics of Tait's song All You Got are a message of hope and encouragement to someone who is struggling and feeling like nobody cares about them. The opening lines express how the person is feeling and how they think life is unfair. The singer then encourages them to keep going and to give it all they have. The chorus starts by reminding the person that there is a reason for every changing season in life and that God only knows how much their heart can bear. The line "So don't you let go" is a strong message to the person to hold on and keep going.
The second verse of the song speaks to the person's potential and how they used to have the ability to turn everything they touched into gold. However, the lyrics show that everything has a season and the sun still rises and falls. The chorus is repeated to further drive home the message of hope and to remind the person that they are loved and not alone.
Overall, the song is a message of hope and encouragement to someone who is feeling lost and alone. The lyrics are a reminder that every season in life serves a purpose and that even in the darkest of times, love and hope can always be found.
