The group is named for Michael Tait's late father, of whom he says "taught me how to appreciate the human experience whether it be a sunny day, a beautiful lawn, or amazing trees set before an amazing mountain. He taught me how to love and embrace mankind, whether it be a Chinese girl hanging out with a black guy whose mom is a white lady." As for the band's mission, Michael Tait says, "...ultimately I hope and pray [people] see the Gospel... People look for so many other ways to fill the emptiness in their lives, and there's just no way to do it besides Christ."
Musically, the band blends the styles of modern rock, pop, funk, soul, and R&B. Michael Tait describes the group as "guitar-toting, drum-slinging rockers." Preceding the release of their 2001 debut album, Empty, Tait performed selections from the project all over the world, including Amsterdam.
Talk About Jesus

Echoes in my head
I still remember, longing to escape
Like a man in prison chains, is my life in vain
I cry out for you to hear
And I wonder does anybody care
You talk about Jesus, how He set you free
I don't understand it, what you're talking about
All I feel is pain when I look around
Whoa whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa whoa - ooh
All I ever wanted, never wanted me
All the dreams that I lived for have left me incomplete
Now I'm still searching, if I could find the truth
But these voices haunting me have left me so confused
I cry out for you to hear
And I wonder does anybody care
You talk about Jesus, how He set you free
You talk about a Savior, how He died for me
I don't understand it, what you're talking about
All I feel is pain, please help me now
When I was cold, did you let me in
When I was hungry, were you my friend
When I was down and out and I needed your hand
Did you see a chance or just a desperate man
Ooh
You talk about Jesus, how He set you free
You talk about a Savior, how He died for me
I don't understand it, what you're talking about
All I feel is pain, please help me now
Oh you say we're equal, all men are brothers
But why are the rich more equal than others,
Yeah more equal than others
Don't ask the answers, I've only got one,
When a man leaves his darkness he follows the Son
The lyrics of Tait's song "Talk About Jesus" reveal a sense of confusion and desperation on the part of the singer. The opening lines express a sense of disappointment and betrayal in someone who had promised to be there for the singer but had not followed through. This leads to a feeling of hopelessness and a sense that life is futile.
The singer then raises a series of questions, wondering if anyone cares about their pain and searching for meaning and purpose. The chorus of the song introduces the idea of Jesus as a source of hope and freedom, but the singer expresses confusion and a lack of understanding about what this means for them. They long for someone to help them navigate the confusion and pain they are experiencing.
