A Quiet Life
Teho Teardo blixa bargeld Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Maybe this time I'll outwit my past
I'll throw away the numbers, the keys
And all the cards
Maybe I can carve out a living in the cold
At the outskirts of some city
I extinguish all my recent pasts
Become another man again
A quiet life for me
A quiet life
A quiet life for me
A quiet life for someone
An acquired life for me
I lost, I ran
I started once anew
In northern grey, in drizzling rain
In salted slush and bitter hale
But the order as always merciless
It wants to see me fail
So the hunter is now the hunted
Past voices call my name
I renounce my past to live again
A quiet life
A quiet life
A quiet life for me
A quiet life for someone
An acquired life for me
I thought I have been given
Another chance again
But heaven lies as usual
I repented but in vain
It tries to cheat me out of my good aim
Take away what I never really got
My quiet life
No quiet life for me
No quiet life
No quiet life for me
A quiet life for someone
No quiet life for me
The song "A Quiet Life" by Teho Teardo and Blixa Bargeld is a contemplation of one's ability to escape their past and start anew. The lyrics express a desire to throw away all identification and start from scratch with no ties to the past. The singer wants to carve out a new lifestyle at the edges of a city, separate from the past and the unrelenting systems that would hold them back. The cautious optimism of the first verse is undercut by the second verse's resignation that the past has already caught up with and will always be calling them back. The third verse's lines represent the realization that the heavens may not be on our sides and that sometimes we have to compromise our hopes and desires to live a quiet life.
The lyrics are open to individual interpretation but can also refer to the current political scenarios where an individual is expected to conform to a particular pattern or idea of society. In this sense, the song is both melancholic and hopeful, emphasizing the notion that it might be possible to live a quiet life, but it is difficult to run away from the past. The phrase, "an acquired life for me" could be interpreted in a few different ways, one of which could be the cost of living a quiet life; you lose your identity and are living a life that has been given to you.

Maybe this time,
Possibly on this occasion
Maybe this time I'll outwit my past
Possibly this time I will overcome my previous mistakes
I'll throw away the numbers, the keys
I will discard all the things that have defined my life before
And all the cards
And all the other things that could have been holding me back
Maybe I can carve out a living in the cold
It's possible that I can find a way to live in harsh conditions
At the outskirts of some city
On the fringes of the urban environment
I extinguish all my recent pasts
I let go of all the events and experiences that have happened recently
Become another man again
I transform into someone new, an improved version of myself
And have a quiet life
And live a peaceful existence
A quiet life for me
A peaceful existence that I crave
A quiet life
A life of tranquility and serenity
A quiet life for someone
A peaceful existence for others to live
An acquired life for me
A hard-earned life that I have earned
I lost, I ran
I failed, I fled
I started once anew
I began again from the beginning
In northern grey, in drizzling rain
In the bleak, cold north in the middle of a downpour
In salted slush and bitter hale
In a treacherous environment of icy sleet and harsh wind
But the order as always merciless
However, the universe as usual cruel and unforgiving
It wants to see me fail
It desires to watch me crumble and surrender
So the hunter is now the hunted
Now I am the one who is being pursued instead of being the predator
Past voices call my name
Memories of bygone days haunt me
I renounce my past to live again
I reject my past to start life anew
A quiet life for me
A life of peace that I require
A quiet life
A peaceful existence I desire
No quiet life for me
I cannot find peace in my life
No quiet life
An existence without calm and serenity
A quiet life for someone
Someone else may have a life of tranquility
No quiet life for me
I cannot escape my tumultuous existence

This song takes all of the great dreams and hopes that never came to fruition, hidden in my heart.
This song squeezes at my heart, reminding me to breath.
And as it squeezes, the tears that remind me.
They remind me the life I wanted, The loves I worked for,
The secret, special ambitions I knew I could achieve.
The secret special ambitions were never meant for me.
So the the picked bass, the downward strings, the lyrics,
The lyrics are reminders that repentance does not bring joy.
And the tears, streaming from your eyes to your cheeks.
Tears come from your heart,
Gripped by the hand of mortal love,
Squeezed each time you dare to hope,
Each time you dare to dream.
The quiet life and the billows,
It’s too late for hope’s embrace.
The quiet life is how we fond out,
The tears just water the garden,
Of what could never be.

i discovered this song before watching Dark and I remember I almost cry when it started to sound on that last episode, Dark is an awesome serie indeed
@scboyca
If a watcher of the show said they not once shed a tear id call em a liar and then tell em when they do have that realization we could be friends again.
I cried no lie every other episode and a few times I didn't even know why. When I watched the show twice and was able to see and ear and feel different aspect than I did the first time, the show made even more sense, and I cried in different parts than prior! There's a magic in this show that I can't identify but that doesn't mean its not there!
You all have felt it too.

it was the same for me with Sol Seppy - Enter One

Now imagine exactly that but in the aftermath of an Ayahuasca experience. You don't almost cry. You cry like a fountain.
