Little Girl
Ten Feet Deep Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When you raised your head I saw a smile
I grinned and cheered inside
What was left unsaid to reconcile
Was carried off in that lost car ride

Who's benefitin' from this?
You can't find the tracks
"Life's kiss," take it back

Little girl don't you try to fool yourself
That's never been your style
But won't you tell her? Testify!
Cause all these years you've always been worthwhile
Little girl

When you thirst for life so hard you drown
I poured you more and we dropped the ball
Who's benefitin' from this?
You can't find the tracks
"Life's kiss," take it back

Greet the brand new day with hope and praise
Comfort in change and trust the same
From the morning rain the color stays
Pain washed away along with blame

Little girl don't you try to fool yourself
That's never been your style
But won't you tell her? Testify!
Cause all these years you've always been worthwhile
Little girl

Little girl, the sun's come up
You've always been the one early to rise
I'd never tell you "hurry up"

Cause all these years you've always been worthwhile
Little girl

Overall Meaning

The song Little Girl by Ten Feet Deep is a heartfelt tribute to someone who has struggled but never lost her worth. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that there was an unsaid disagreement between two people, which was never reconciled but was left behind in a lost car ride. The singer questions who is benefitting from the situation and says that "Life's kiss" must be taken back. In the chorus, the singer addresses the Little Girl, asking her not to fool herself that she is not worthwhile and to testify that she has always had value. The singer then talks about how he tried to help Little Girl when she was going through a hard time, but somehow they dropped the ball.

The second verse of the song starts with Little Girl drowning in her thirst for life, and the singer tries to pour more life into her. He then reiterates the question of who is benefitting from the situation and says "Life's kiss" must be taken back. The verse then ends with a message of hope and comfort, telling her to trust in change and wash away the pain and the blame. The chorus follows, where he reminds her of her worth and how she's always risen above the pain. In the final lines of the song, he acknowledges her strength, telling her that she's always been the one to rise early, and that she's always been worthwhile.

It would be a blessing if all baby’s came as swimmers that naturally!

All babies can be taught how to swim. More importantly, before they even learn how to swim they can be taught how to get to the surface and turn onto their backs so they can breath if they fall into the water. That can prevent the drowning death of a lot of babies and toddlers.
