You're Easy On The Eyes
Terri Clark Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Should've known it was you
Knocking on my door
At a half past a heartache, quarter to four
Were you starting to worry I was finally getting over you?

I almost forgot you looked so fine
If you told me some lies it'd be like old times
Just getting to see you is almost worth the things you do

You're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart
You look so good but the way things look ain't the way the are
Better say goodbye before we go too far
Cause now I realize you're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart

I've got to admit you've got a smile
That really reeled me in for a while
But it ain't funny, honey what you put me through
So why don't you send me your photograph?
It would hurt a lot less than taking you back
Then I could still have my favorite part of you

You're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart
You look so good but the way things look ain't the way the are
Better say goodbye before we go too far
Cause now I realize you're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart

You're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart
You look so good but the way things look ain't the way the are
Better say goodbye before we go too far

Cause now I realize you're easy on the eyes
Hard on the heart

Overall Meaning

The song "You're Easy on the Eyes" by Terri Clark is a country ballad that tells the story of a woman who is trying to move on from a past love but finds herself drawn back to him because of his physical appearance. As the song begins, the singer hears a knock on her door and realizes it's her former lover. She is surprised to find that she is still attracted to him and acknowledges that if he were to tell her a few lies, things could go back to the way they were before. She recognizes that he is easy on the eyes but hard on the heart. As the chorus repeats, the singer realizes that she needs to say goodbye before they go too far, recognizing that even though he looks good, things are not always as they seem.

Throughout the song, the singer struggles with her feelings for her past lover. She acknowledges that he has a smile that she finds irresistible and is drawn to his physical beauty. However, she also recognizes that he has caused her a great deal of pain in the past and that the way he looks does not necessarily reflect what is happening in their relationship. The song effectively captures the struggle that many people face when trying to move on from a failed relationship and highlights the tension between what we see and what we feel.

Line by Line Meaning

Should've known it was you Knocking on my door At a half past a heartache, quarter to four Were you starting to worry I was finally getting over you?
I already guessed it was you when you knocked my door at an inconvenient time. Did you think I was moving on without you?

I almost forgot you looked so fine If you told me some lies it'd be like old times Just getting to see you is almost worth the things you do
I almost forgot how attractive you were. Even if you lied to me like you did before, it's almost worth it just to see you again.

You're easy on the eyes Hard on the heart You look so good but the way things look ain't the way the are Better say goodbye before we go too far Cause now I realize you're easy on the eyes Hard on the heart
You are physically appealing, but it's difficult to be involved with you emotionally because what is on the surface isn't always what's true. We need to part ways before we get too involved, because I've realized you are only attractive in looks, but not for my heart.

I've got to admit you've got a smile That really reeled me in for a while But it ain't funny, honey what you put me through So why don't you send me your photograph? It would hurt a lot less than taking you back Then I could still have my favorite part of you
I have to acknowledge that your smile caught my attention for a while. However, what you made me go through is no joke. How about you simply send me your picture instead of coming back and causing more pain? That way, I can still have a tangible memory of what I used to like about you.

Man, it is hard to believe that this song was #1 on the American Country Chart 20 years ago this was her very 1st American Single to hit the Top 40 on the Pop Chart

This is my favorite from Ms. Clark and she is not only Hot and Sexy, but she is also talented and a Hard Worker

God Bless Terri Clark for a job well done

You GO GIRL!

and BTW, this song was out during my High School Sr. Year

and also, this song was out when shows like The Nanny, Home Improvement, Frasier, Friends, ER, Caroline in the City, Suddenly Susan, Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, Figure it Out and Judge Joe Brown were still on the air

For me they just remind me of a better time when our outlook for the future was basically the Jetsons rather than Idiocracy.
