There She Goes
The_Flying_Machine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There she goes
See her
She doesn't seem to know I'm there
Or even care
She's holding him now
Like she once held me
See her
There she goes

She must know
That I still love her
More than I can say
In every way
I need her so much
I don't care who knows
See her
There she goes

My friends tell me
I'm making a great big, fool of myself
But they, they don't know what it's like
To be by yourself
On the shelf

I will wait for her forever and a day-yay
I hope and pray
That she'll find her way
To my arms again
But till then
There she goes

My friends tell me
I'm making a great big, fool of myself
But they, they don't know what it's like
To be by yourself
On the shelf

I will wait for her forever and a day-yay
I hope and pray
That she'll find her way
To my arms again
But till then
There she goes (there she goes)
(There she goes)

(There she goes)
(There she goes)

Overall Meaning

The Flying Machine's song "There She Goes" is about unrequited love and the pain of watching someone you love be with someone else. The singer in the song is clearly still in love with this woman he sees walking with another man ("She's holding him now like she once held me"), and he feels invisible to her ("She doesn't seem to know I'm there or even care"). However, he is unable to let go of his feelings for her, saying "She must know that I still love her more than I can say in every way, I need her so much I don't care who knows."

Despite his friends telling him he's making a fool of himself and should move on, the singer chooses to wait for this woman "forever and a day-yay" and hopes that she will one day come back to him. Through the repetition of "there she goes," it becomes clear that he sees her often, further adding to his pain.

The song is a simple but poignant portrayal of the experience of unrequited love and the struggle to move on. The melancholic melody also adds to the sense of yearning and heartache.
