The name comes from the bouffant wigs that are part of the band's distinctive look, worn by singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson. Along with Wilson and Pierson, fellow vocalist Fred Schneider, drummer (and later guitarist) Keith Strickland, and guitarist Ricky Wilson (Cindy's older brother) formed the band after a drunken night at a Chinese restaurant. They shared a passion for mixing and matching older styles with a partying, good-time public image, which set them apart from many staid 70s contemporaries.
Their sound is particularly marked by the vocals of Wilson and Pierson, with Kate singing in a slightly deeper voice, along with the generally monotone or spoken-word vocals of Schneider. Aside from their vocals, the band also had a unique New Wave sound that was a combination of 50s and 60s dance music and surf rock, and the unusual guitar-string tunings utilized by Ricky Wilson. Although a clear part of said movement, their music was more experimental than most new wave groups, indulging in all manner of odd vocal and synthesizer effects. The B-52's created a quirky dance vibe that became very popular and their tours have been successful for decades.

All right
Bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-bum-bum
Bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-bum-bum
Bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-bum-bum
Bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum, bum-bum-bum-bum
Ooh, baby
What?
Well, here it is
Here it is
Here it is
Here it is
Are you lookin' for it?
Are you lookin' for it?
You'll hear it from me
Good stuff, baby
Do you want it?
Do you know how to get it?
That good stuff baby
Good, good stuff
I got sincerity that's bonifide
And a heart so fine it's certified
So let your good stuff rain down on me
Your dang good stuff that's true and tried
Are you lookin' for it?
Are you lookin' for it?
You'll hear it from me
Good stuff baby
Do you want it?
Do you know how to get it?
That good stuff baby
Good good stuff
What's the use of gettin' if you ain't sharin'?
My eyes are strainin' from all the starin'
You've become my magnificent obsession
So how's about joinin' my lovin' session?
Are you ready? (I'm ready)
Are you ready? (uh, yeah)
Are you ready for this? (I guess so)
Come on baby, say whoa!
Take me down where the love honey flows
Kiss you nice, nibble your toes
Take me down where the good stuff grows
Love you nice, tickle your nose
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
The big dipper sure ain't big enough
To hold all of your dang good stuff
So let the people say we're downright nasty
I just say we're down right
That good stuff that I am seekin'
It's got me peakin' and it's got me freakin'
Watch my lips I am speakin'
It's got me trickin' and it's got me treatin'!
I got sincerity that's bonifide
So come on now and let your good stuff rain down on me (take me down)
I want the stuff (take me up) that's true and tried
Take me to the place they have the good stuff (yeah)
Take me down where the love honey flows
Kiss you nice, nibble your toes
Take me down where the good stuff grows
Love you nice, tickle your nose
Take me down where the love honey flows
Kiss you nice, nibble your toes
Take me down where the good stuff grows
Love you nice, tickle your nose
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Good stuff, gimmie some of that good stuff
Don't leave me hangin'
I want to be dangin'
With your dang good stuff!
Don't leave me hangin'
I want to be dangin'
With your dang good stuff!
Hey ladies
Do you want it, yeah?
Hey fellas
You got to have it, yeah!
Gonna wallow in the lovin' hollow
Gonna wallow in your dang good stuff!
Gonna wallow in the lovin' hollow
Gonna wallow in your dang good stuff!
Hey ladies (gonna wallow in the lovin' hollow)
Do you want it, yeah? (gonna wallow in your dang good stuff!)
Hey fellas (gonna wallow in the lovin' hollow)
You got to have it, yeah! (gonna wallow in your dang good stuff!)
Hey!
That good-good-good-good-good-good-good stuff!
That good-good-good-good-good-good-good stuff, yeah!
The B-52's's song "Good Stuff" is a joyful and playful celebration of romantic love and physical attraction. The lyrics revolve around the theme of asking for and receiving someone's affection, as the singer repeatedly asks for "some of that good stuff." The lyrics speak to the idea that if someone really desires love and affection from their partner, they should be willing to offer the same in return. The song also delves into the idea that true love is a mutual experience, and both partners should be fully committed to each other. Through playful and upbeat lyrics, "Good Stuff" ultimately highlights the joys of being in love and the desire to be with someone who makes you feel good.
Interestingly, the song was actually a collaboration between The B-52's and rap group Outkast. The music video for the song features both bands playing together, with members of Outkast rapping over the B-52's's signature New Wave sound. The video also features a playful nod to the band's previous hit "Love Shack," as the band is seen driving a similarly decorated car.

Kate had really evolved into a vocal god by this point. Her voice just soars here. It's clear as a bell, but she still manages to put a lot of grit into when she wants to. She was always amazing, but she was just on another level at this point in the B52's history.

It was in the grunge Era also so she was sorta competing with the female singers like Courtney Love. Wouldn't be shocked if the Go Gos influenced this also from the past.

Love 'em or hate 'em, they certainly had a unique sound. I wouldn't even know what to call it. There's not a name for it. That's when you know a band is original.

51MontyPython, This kind of music came out in the late (?)1970s. Back then, it was called New Wave. I loved the B-52s at first listen/dance.
