Nobody's fault but mine
Nobody's fault but mine
Tryin' to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine

Got a Bible in my home
Got a Bible in my home
Tryin' to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine, yeah

My sister, she told me to roll
My sister, she told me to roll
How to roll down to the light
Nobody's fault but mine, oh

Nobody's fault but mine
Nobody's fault but mine
Tryin' to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine, take it home take it home

Oh ma ma home
I got a monkey on my back
I got a monkey on my back, back, back
How to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine, yeah

Nobody's fault but mine
Nobody's fault but mine
How to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine, whoo hoo hoo

Ahh, nobody's fault but mine
Nobody's fault but mine
How to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine

Oh, yeah
Nobody's fault but mine
Nobody's fault but mine
Tryin' to raise my soul to light
Nobody's fault but mine, yeah

Overall Meaning

body's Fault But Mine by The Black Crowes w/Jimmy Page is a cover of a traditional gospel/blues song that originated in the early 20th century. The song is a spiritual confession about the singer's personal struggles and search for salvation. The repeated line "Nobody's fault but mine" acknowledges that the responsibility for the singer's actions and spiritual progress lies solely with themselves.

The references to the Bible and the singer's sister suggest that the song is rooted in the African American church experience, which often involved a reliance on family and religious texts to navigate life's challenges. The lyric "I got a monkey on my back" is a common idiom used to describe addiction or burdensome problems, further emphasizing the singer's struggles.

When Jimmy Page writes a riff/song/chord progression, the Gods stop what they are doing and listen.

I never get tired of Jimmy Page or The Black Crowes

@davidhutchinson5233

I remember seeing this when it aired in 2000. I was blown away that they played such a classic song that 25 years old at that point. Great performance. Rock solid as always.

@Dan-zq5wt

The multiple guitars live really helps the depth on songs like this since Jimmy multi-tracked guitars on Wanton Song and many others in the studio

@FigmentSALabel

Good point.

@mjh5437

Yes,first thing I noticed too..Got me thinking if Zep had had three guitarists playing live who would have been the best fit.

@joshuamartins9487

@MJ H Their performance of Ten Years Gone , reinforces this as well . I've always thought Zep live just paled in comparison to their studio stuff. 3 pieces wasn't enough to do the studio versions justice .
