A Dream
The Black Shadows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Blew the dust off a wooden box
And set it on the piano
Nasty words came from its mouth
The bite marks were to follow
I should have given it away
Now I never dream
Wide awake for much too long
My eyes glued to the table
Tried to feign authority
But sadly wasn't able
And then it threw me to the floor
I never dream
They say I'm late by half a century
He died in 1943
I can't just leave
(He smells it when I'm gone)
So I just take it in my sleep
The road is goingâ?¦
Me: â??Ask for her another dayâ??
The spade's up your sleeve
There's sweat on your brow
And I will be damned
If I let you back into this town
December 17th, 1955 - Broken
Seven hours passed on your floor

Seven hours isn't that long
Seven hours isn't

Overall Meaning

enough

The lyrics of The Black Shadows's song A Dream tell a haunting and mysterious story that requires careful interpretation to truly appreciate. The first verse describes an old wooden box that the singer has uncovered and placed on a piano. The box emanates "nasty words" and has bite marks on it, suggesting it may be possessed or holding a dark secret. The singer regrets not giving it away and is now unable to dream because of the box's presence. In the second verse, the singer tries to assert their authority over the box, but it throws them to the floor. The third verse is a bit of a riddle, with the singer referencing a person who died in 1943 and smelling something when they're gone. The final verse describes a broken relationship and the notion that seven hours spent on someone's floor isn't enough.

The song is full of unexplained imagery and symbolism, which is part of its draw. The box in the first verse could be interpreted in many ways, including a metaphor for a troubled past or a symbol for a physical object with spiritual power. The reference to someone who died in 1943 adds to the intrigue, as does the mention of a smell that lingers in someone's absence. The final verse about a broken relationship is more straightforward, but the meaning behind it is left up to interpretation. The song overall has a haunting and melancholy tone, with a sense of unease that lingers even after it's finished.

I dreamt of male shadow, big and strong coming towards me. He was walking in full stride. I understood I could not outrun him so I started praying. Initially I felt fear but that melted away as my prayer got stronger. However, he kept walking towards me, walked through me and out. I was facing him and he literally walked through me like I had no substance and went on his way. Sir? What does this mean?

Peace Efe Owede

KING Of HEARTS

I am Alkebulan, in my strange dream, I saw a human shadow standing behind a mountain in the east, it was so tall its head was in the clouds. after this, i saw everybody around me get on their knees and started praying, i was stricken with fear and after i knelt too, i woke up..
Since then i have been more worried than at ease.
