1. The San Francis… Read Full Bio ↴There are 3 bands who share the name The Blacks.
1. The San Francisco/New York three-piece known for their short, blistering stage shows and laser-beam intensity. With a stripped down instrumentation featuring guitar (Luisa Black), drums (Gavin Black) and wild-eyed tambourine player JDK Blacker, The Blacks serve up a hot, electric, garage noir sound that mixes the rawness of The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Stooges with the vocal elegance of Romeo Void. Their debut full-length "Nom de Guerre" was released on Tricyce Records in 2007, followed by The Seven Inch (2008) and Tiger Songs (2009). On 18 may 2009 it was announced on their myspace-blog that after only 2,5 years they would disband after a final concert in July. Since than a final EP has been released called "Tiger Songs" as digital download.
2. The Blacks from Chicago, IL on Bloodshot Records. In 1993, Danny Black found a Hank Williams record left behind in the apartment he had just rented and everything started to make sense. He met Gina Black at a G. Love and the Special Sauce show at Lounge Ax. She promptly abandoned her classical bass training and they formed a rock band. Drummer James, culled from an Eagles cover band (we wish we were kidding about that), was known about town for his wide lapels, a drumming style that looks like he's having a seizure, and rambunctious head banging at all Devil in a Woodpile shows. Rounding out the line up (for the first record) on rhythm guitar, sweet harmony vocals, and the occasional French maid outfit, was Nora O'Connor (Neko Case, Mavis Staples, Andrew Bird, New Pornographers). The Blacks burned bright for two albums (1998's 'Dolly Horrorshow' and 2000's 'Just Like Home'), then flamed out under their own volatility. In 2010, after a 10 year hiatus, the band reunited and returned with a digital-only EP, 'In Sickness and Health.'
3. Swedish garage punk band featuring members from The Heartattacks, Tokyo Knives & The Playmobils, who have released several singles.

The Blacks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
please girl, just say yes
I need to hear it from you
I know it's him. did he touch your skin?
tell me when did it all begin
I need to hear it from you
you know his going away when the summer ends
how can you ask me to stay only a friend
then show me how to put out this flame
take me back to your swamp
hold me down till I drown
take me back to your playground
I will be lost and never found
I would die for you
The lyrics to The Blacks' song "Heavy" are a plea from the singer to a girl he desires. He is asking her to tell him that she feels the same way about him and to say "yes" to his advances. However, he also asks her a difficult question: did another man touch her skin? The singer wants to know when it all began with this other man.
As the song progresses, the singer takes on a more aggressive tone, telling the girl that the man she is with will soon forget her name. He pleads with her not to ask him to be only a friend but then offers himself up to her completely by asking her to take him back to her "swamp" and drown him. He express his willingness to be lost forever if it means being with her.
Overall, the song explores the complex emotions of love and desire, jealousy and insecurity. The singer is torn between wanting to be with the girl he desires and the fear that he is not the only one in her life.
