Line-up: Werner Krabbe (lead vocals), Jurg "Jockel" Schulte-Eckel (guitars), Uli Grรผn (rhythm guitar, organ, harmonica), Bob Bresser (bass), Heinz Hoff (drums)
The Boots were popular in Germany and recorded for Telefunken Records, which yielded a pair of LPs as well as several singles. Krabbe exited in early 1966, following the release of their garage-punk single "Gaby", featured on Rhino's summer 2001 release of Nuggets II.
The original group called it a day in 1968... but not quite. Grรผn, Hoff and new bassist, Rainer Bleck, moved to The Netherlands and recruited Dutchmen Kid van Ettinger (ex-The Incrowd) and singer, Jacques Eckhardt. The 'Dutch version' of The Boots released two more singles before dissolving in 1969.

Just try one bite, no need to fight it
Open up, it's a taste bud party
Oh broccoli looks funny
It looks like a tree
Tomatoes are a fruit
Are you kidding me?
It's the colour green
Lock 'em up, so they can't be seen
Just try one bite, you might like it
Just try one bite, no need to fight it
Open up, it's a taste bud party
Oatmeal for breakfast?
I'm going back to bed
Carrots with no dip?
I'll eat my sock instead
Chili, don't be so silly
It's all full of beans
Lock 'em up, so they can't be seen
Just try one bite, you might like it
Just try one bite, no need to fight it
Open up, it's a taste bud party
So many foods, oh what to do?
I guess I shouldn't be so suspicious
So many foods, oh what do I do?
Because it might be delicious
So.
I tried one bite
Hey guess what? I liked it
I tried one bite
I'm not going to fight it
I tried one bite
And guess what?
I liked it
Open up, it's a taste bud party
The Boots's song "I Don't Like It" is a playful and quirky take on the issue of picky eating. The lyrics are full of humorous observations about various foods that the singer doesn't like, and they encourage the listener to be open-minded and try new things.
The first two verses describe the appearance of foods like broccoli, tomato, and lettuce, which the singer finds unappetizing or strange. The refrain urges the listener to try these foods anyway, promising it will be a "taste bud party." The third verse includes a selection of breakfast foods and a nod to the singer's stubbornness, but the ultimate message is that trying new things can be rewarding and enjoyable.
The final verse is a shift in tone, as the singer admits to having tried one bite of a new food and discovering that they liked it after all. The refrain is repeated, but this time with the added enthusiasm of someone who has just discovered the joys of expanding their palate.
Overall, the song's message is simple but effective: don't be afraid to try something new, and you might be surprised by what you like.
