Formed in 2004, The Cab consists of members Alex DeLeon (vocals), Joey Thunder (bass guitar), Chantry Johnson (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Dave Briggs (drums, percussion). They gained popularity through the music-sharing platform MySpace, where their demos and early releases attracted a growing fanbase.
In January 2006, The Cab signed to the local label Olympus Records; however, they did not release any material during this period. After they handed a demo to Panic! at the Disco's Spencer Smith and Jon Walker at a show featuring Cobra Starship, Boys Like Girls, and Cartel. Smith helped the band to sign with Decaydance Records in May 2007.
Over the years, The Cab continued to refine their sound, blending elements of pop, rock, and R&B into their music. They released EPs like "Symphony Soldier" and "Lock Me Up," further showcasing their versatility and evolving musical style.
In an interview with All Access, Alexander DeLeon stated that the band was currently going on hiatus, as he worked as a solo artist under the name Bohnes. DeLeon hinted that there could be a potential return for The Cab in the future. In January of 2020, a new song was teased on X, accompanied with an announcement of a new album in development.
That '70s Song
The Cab Lyrics

From all these places that I cannot stand
I guess it's just my history talking
Or I'm refusing to supply your demands
You say the storm will pass
We'll work it out
The road can get a little rough sometimes
Our hearts will beat in separate rooms tonight
But tonight
[Chorus]
Baby, we belong alone
Guess my second chance is blown
Baby, we belong alone
I got another you at home
Baby, we belong alone, alone
And lately you've been knocking
But I never really listened or cared
'Cause when I told you I was walking
I was reeling her in with my stare
You say the storm will pass
We'll work it out
The road can get a little rough sometimes
I'll move it fast without a doubt
Our hearts will beat in separate rooms tonight
But tonight
[Chorus]
Baby, we belong alone
Guess my second chance was blown
Baby, we belong alone
I got another you at home
[Chorus]
In The Cab's song "That '70s Song," the lyrics explore the complicated dynamics of a failing relationship. The first verse suggests that the singer has been walking away from various situations he cannot tolerate. He acknowledges the impact of his past experiences and feelings on his current situation. He feels like he's refusing to meet the demands of his partner. The singer doesn't seem to believe that things can ever work out between them, even though his partner claims that the storm will pass.
The second verse shifts to the perspective of the singer's partner. She's been trying to communicate, but he has not been paying attention. He's focused on someone or something else he desires. The partner also acknowledges that things can be rough, but seems more hopeful than the singer. She believes that they can work things out. However, both of them can still feel each other's hearts beating, even though they are in separate rooms, indicating a sense of longing that lingers between them.
In conclusion, "That '70s Song" delves into the complexities of trying to hold onto a relationship that appears to be falling apart. It explores the feelings of refusal, regret and longing, using metaphors of storms, walking away and beating hearts.
