The Carpenters' melodic pop charted a record-breaking score of hit recordings on the American Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, becoming leading sellers in the soft rock, easy listening and adult contemporary genres. The Carpenters had three #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and fifteen #1 hits on the Adult Contemporary Chart (see The Carpenters discography). In addition, they had twelve top 10 singles (including their #1 hits). To date, The Carpenters' album and single sales total more than 100 million units.
During their fourteen-year career, The Carpenters recorded eleven albums, five of which contained top 10 singles (Close to You, Carpenters, A Song for You, Now & Then and Horizon), thirty-one singles, five television specials, and one short-lived television series. They toured in the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands and Belgium. Their recording career ended with Karen's death on February 4, 1983. Karen passed away after cardiac arrest due to complications of anorexia nervosa. Extensive news coverage of the circumstances surrounding her death increased public awareness of the consequences of eating disorders.
Their first recordings were not successful, and the recording studio that was recording them, dropped them. That's when their 'savior' came in. Herb Alpert of A&M records heard a couple of their songs and said that he felt that they had good potential. Thanks to him, and his ability to see/hear quality when it appears, we had the GREAT performers of The Carpenters.
You're Enough
The Carpenters Lyrics

If I never had another
Never hold another lover
Baby, you're enough
All the rest are second best
Compared to you
You're enough
After what we've known together
Baby, you're enough
I've already had my sweetest dreams come true
Can't you see
In these eyes that adore you
I've been waiting here for you
Baby, can't you see
Look at me
See love's greatest non-believer
Believing that she might be seeing love
In your eyes
Stars above
Made for wishin', made for dreamers
Won't you listen to this heart
And what it's dreamin' of
If they'll only shine their lucky starlight down on me
Make it bright enough for only you to see
That, baby, you're enough for me
The Carpenters' song "You're Enough" is a heartfelt declaration of love towards someone. The lyrics express that the person is enough and that they don't need anyone else in their life. The song implies that this person has experienced enough love and happiness that they don't require anyone else's love or companionship. It's an appreciation for the love they've shared with someone.
Karen Carpenter's voice shines in this song, particularly in the lines "Can't you see in these eyes that adore you/I've been waiting here for you/Baby, can't you see", where the emotion and vulnerability are beautifully conveyed. The lyrics depict a love that is both genuine and unwavering, with the singer stating that the person is "love's greatest non-believer," but also admitting to the possibility of seeing love in the other's eyes.
In summary, "You're Enough" is a romantic and affirming song that uplifts the listener, emphasizing the intoxicating power of love while simultaneously embracing the fulfilment that comes with experiencing it.
