Rhythm Of The Rain
The Cascades (2) Lyrics

Telling me just what a fool Iโฒve been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again
The only girl I care about has gone away
Looking for a brand new start
But little does she know
Along with her she took my heart
Rain please tell me now does that seem fair
For her to steal my heart away when she don't care
I canโฒt love another when my hearts somewhere far away
The only girl I care about has gone away
Looking for a brand new start
But little does she know that when she left that day
Along with her she took my heart
Rain won't you tell her that I love her so
Please ask the sun to set her heart aglow
Rain in her heart and let the love we knew start to grow
Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
Telling me just what a fool I've been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again
Oh, listen to the falling rain
Pitter pater, pitter pater
Oh, oh, oh, listen to the falling rain
Pitter pater, pitter pater
In Rhythm Of The Rain, The Cascades describe the pain of heartbreak through the sound and rhythm of the falling rain. The repetitive sound symbolizes the constant reminder of lost love, as the singer wishes the rain would stop and leave him to cry in solitude. The lyrics reveal his regret at not realizing the value of his lover and his longing for her to come back. He cannot love another because his heart still belongs to her, and he implores the rain to tell her how he feels and ignite the love they once shared.
The metaphor of the falling rain is ingenious as it not only reflects the singer's mood and emotions, but it also captures the essence of the song's contemporary moment. Rhythm Of The Rain was released in 1963, at the height of the Vietnam War, and it was a time of great social upheaval and political uncertainty, punctuated by protests, demonstrations, and confrontations with the police. The song's wistful melody, harmonies, and lyrics offered a welcome relief and escapism for listeners who found solace in its romantic yearning and unrequited love. Rhythm of The Rain became an instant classic and continues to be a much-loved song for generations.

Listen closely to the beat of the rain falling down
Reminding me of my mistakes and foolishness
I wish the rain would leave me to mourn alone
And let me be solitary once again
The only woman I care for has left me behind
Seeking a fresh start and a life of her own
Not realizing that when she walked away that day
My heart departed with her and has yet to return
Rain, please tell me is this justice and right
For her to take my love away when she doesn't feel the same
I can't devote my heart to someone new when it's still with her
The only woman I care for has left me behind
Seeking a fresh start and a life of her own
But she doesn't realize that when she walked away that day
My heart departed with her and has yet to return
Rain, can you help me express my eternal love to her
Please request the sun to kindle her heart with passion
Rain, pour love into her heart and rekindle our romance
Listen closely to the beat of the rain falling down
Reminding me of my mistakes and foolishness
I wish the rain would go and let me cry in sorrow
And let me be solitary once again

Oh, oh, oh, listen to the falling rain
Pitter-patter, pitter-patter

I think I was 15 when this was a hit. I loved it then and I love it now. Where has the time gone. I'm 75 now, married for 52 years to my high school sweetheart, 3 wonderful children, 4 grandsons, and pretty good health. It doesn't get much better than this! Beautiful memories!!

I was born in 2002 and I can't resist listening to this kind of music. It's so peaceful and charming, and sung from the heart instead of from auto tune.

You make an excellent point. This music has a very soothing element, charming as you put it. It's hard to feel my anxiety when listening to this.

The music used to be more about music but donโt forget that todayโs young people still do appreciate and still in a very dedicated smaller percentage perform new original pieces of songs like this one , such as this Portugal 2020 performance (click the blue link) https://youtu.be/eYhpZ_eFjGQ
