Other members include Tom Chant (saxophone), Phil France (double bass), Luke Flowers (drums), Nick Ramm (piano), Stuart McCallum (guitar); former members include Jamie Coleman (trumpet), T. Daniel Howard (drums), Alex James (piano), and Patrick "PC" Carpenter (turntables).
In both live and studio context, the Cinematic Orchestra employ a live band which improvises along with a turntablist and electronic elements such as samples provided by Swinscoe. In their studio releases Swinscoe will often remix the live source material to produce a finished product that is a seamless combination of live jazz improvisation with electronics, such that it is difficult to tell where the improvisation ends and the production begins. It is worth mentioning that in the sound of the Cinematic Orchestra the role of traditional solo instruments, such as piano or wind instruments, is not the same as in traditional jazz; instead of performing intricate solos they provide a mature accompaniment environment and quite often there is more space for the drums and the double bass to have a lead role.
The Cinematic Orchestra have been noted for their new score to the classic 1929 Dziga Vertov's Ukrainian film "Man with a Movie Camera". They have worked on two other scores: they recorded some tracks for "Ils se marièrent et eurent beaucoup d'enfants" (2004) and made the music for the Disney Nature movie "The Crimson Wing" (2009).
The Cinematic Orchestra released their latest album "Ma Fleur" on 7th May 2007. The album features vocals from Patrick Watson, Fontella Bass and Lou Rhodes. In 2010 their compilation Late Night Tales followed.
They have started their own record label: Motion Audio Records. One record has been released by Lou Rhodes. More releases will follow, including Grey Reverend.

Life of the Bird
The Cinematic Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fought man linguistic scanter
Helpless in the entity
See the caged bird
At the bosom of the angry short fall
One finds a fistful
All engaging
All engaging
I see queen, I see king, I see king, I see queen, well
None of you know my kingdomanium
Last chance to attract it
Last chance to retract it
Why would you hide from yourself
Belief is here to find you
Why would you hide from yourself
Belief is here to find you
Well, I pick up my foot and do those things
Improve thyself, improve with things
I thank you for the healing in
Wings of meditation
Situation is strange to us
Stranger things are claiming us
I've been told we've easily
As easy as the breathing be
Not so, never so, she's been told, she done sold apart of her soul
How the hell would we let it go, how the hell would we ever know
Now and then and here and then, claim to be my bestest friend
It's just the word she's saying it, there ain't no returning now
There ain't no returning now
Why would you hide from yourself
Belief is here to find you
Why would you hide from yourself
Belief is here to find you
Well, I pick up my foot and do those things
Improve those, improve with things
I thank you for the healing in
Wings of meditation
Situation is strange to us
Stranger things are calling us
I've been told we've easily
As easy as the breathing be
You and I can be
Forever
Wealthy
Forever
You
Will be
Forever
The lyrics of The Cinematic Orchestra's song "Life of the Bird" are quite abstract and open to interpretation. The opening lines "Artists in the ground found an infusionary // Fought man linguistic scanter // Helpless in the entity" suggest a struggle between creativity and communication, as artists struggle to express themselves effectively within society. The mention of a caged bird symbolizes confinement and the frustration of not being able to fully express oneself.
The next lines "Perfection is in that non perfection, and // I see queen, I see king, I see king, I see queen, well // None of you know my kingdomanium" suggest that true perfection lies within imperfection, and that others may not fully understand or appreciate the uniqueness of the artist's perspective.
The chorus repeats the question "Why would you hide from yourself // Belief is here to find you" which could be interpreted as a call to embrace one's true self and have faith that everything will fall into place. The following verses touch upon personal growth, self-improvement, and gratitude for the healing power of meditation. The mention of "strange situations" and "stranger things" could refer to the unpredictable nature of life and the unexpected paths it can lead us on.
Overall, the lyrics of "Life of the Bird" seem to touch upon themes of self-discovery, the struggle for creative expression, and the importance of embracing imperfection.
