Bassist Scott Waldman was born on Long Island, New York. He picked up the guitar when he was thirteen and now plays bass. After graduating from the University of Michigan with an English degree in April 2003, Scott moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of rocking full-time.
Hailing from West Covina, California, drummer Marc Precilla took his first piano lesson at age seven and after branching off to many other instruments, he discovered a partiality for hitting things as hard as he could, leading him to the drums. He has played in several rock/punk bands in order to craft his penchant for high-energy percussion and melody.
The City Drive has recorded with producer Mike Green (Yellowcard, The Matches, Over It, Rufio) as well as producer Chris Fudurich (Jimmy Eat World, Finch, Nada Surf, Rx Bandits).
In March 2004, The City Drive performed on the opening night of the SXSW (South by Southwest) Festival in Austin, Texas, alongside such bands as The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, NOFX and Alkaline Trio. In June, they joined the Nokia Core Tour.
In December 2004, The City Drive signed a record deal with We The People/Sony Records. They recorded their debut, full-length in the summer of 2005 with Fudurich which features backing vocals by Rachel Haden of the now-defunct band That Dog (she also sang on Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" and has worked with Weezer and Beck). The album is set for release in Spring 2006.
In May 2007, Scott Waldman quit the band.
In January 2009 the band has appeared to have broken up. Danny is now solo and any mention of the band is pretty much wiped out. No official word came, it just happened.

Figure out the rest of my life
Who do I want to be?
Will I ever get to be somebody?
Apart from you
A part of you
Always gets carried around
So get all dressed down
And go and hit the town
Funny how it always works out
You're not the only
One who is lonely
Everyone knows
We're different speeds
With light years between
And yet it goes
On and on
So we joke around again
Could we ever really be friends?
I'll always say I want you and
Secretly mean it
We could talk about it
But I doubt it
Would make any difference now
It would take forever
For us to stay together
Funny how it never works out
You're not the only
One who is lonely
Everyone knows
We're different speeds
With light years between
And yet it goes
So let me go
Don't let it go
On and on
It's hard to know if this is for the best
But I guess we'll find out in time
All you've ever wanted lies ahead
You're not the only
One who is lonely
Everyone knows
We're different speeds
With light years between
And yet it goes
So let me go
Don't let it go
On and on
The City Drive's song "Light Years" poses the existential questions many of us ask ourselves at one point or another - who do I want to be? Will I ever get to be somebody? The song is filled with contemplation, uncertainty, and a hint of melancholy. The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song as the singer tries to figure out the rest of their life. They know they want to be somebody, but who that is remains unclear. The line "Apart from you, a part of you always gets carried around" suggests that even though they may not have a clear idea of who they want to be, they are still connected to someone else - perhaps a former lover or friend.
The chorus addresses the common feeling of loneliness and the idea that we are all at different speeds with "light years" between us, yet time keeps moving forward. The singer tries to make light of the situation by joking around, but deep down they know that being friends may not be possible. The line "We could talk about it, but I doubt it would make any difference now" hints at a certain degree of resignation or acceptance that things may not work out as they wish. The last verse brings up the idea that it's hard to know if this is for the best, but ultimately time will tell. The singer tries to find hope by acknowledging that all they've ever wanted lies ahead.
Overall, "Light Years" is a poignant and introspective song that speaks to the human experience of grappling with life's big questions, loneliness, and the uncertainty of the future.
