human
The Civil Twilight Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's one way out and one way in
Back to the beginning
There's one way back to home again
To where I feel forgiven

What is this I feel, why is it so real
What am I to say
It's only love, it's only pain
It's only fear, that run through my veins
It's all the things you can't explain
That make us human

I am just an image of something so much greater
I am just a picture frame, I am not the painter
Where do I begin, can I shed this skin
What is this I feel within

It's only love, it's only pain
It's only fear that runs through my veins
It's all the things you can't explain
That make us human

That make us human
That make us human

It's only love, it's only pain
It's only fear that runs through my veins
It's all the things you can't explain
That make us human

That make us human

That make us human
Oh that make us human

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Civil Twilight's song Human explore the complexities and contradictions of what it means to be human. The opening lines, "There's one way out and one way in, Back to the beginning, There's one way back to home again, To where I feel forgiven," suggest a desire for simplicity and a return to a point of origin. The singer is searching for a way to escape the difficulties of being human.

The lyrics then address the confusion and emotional turmoil that often accompanies human existence. The lines "It's only love, it's only pain, It's only fear, that run through my veins, It's all the things you can't explain, That make us human" suggest that the singer recognizes that these emotions are part of what makes us human. The contradictions and messiness of life are an inherent part of what it means to be alive.

The final lines of the song, "I am just an image of something so much greater, I am just a picture frame, I am not the painter," bring a sense of humility and recognition of the vastness of the universe. The singer is one small part of something much larger, and it is a humbling and awe-inspiring realization.

Overall, the lyrics to Human are a thoughtful exploration of what it means to be human, with all of its contradictions, complexities, and emotional turmoil. The song acknowledges that while life can be messy and difficult, it is these things that make us human and connect us to one another.

I have absolutely no idea why Civil Twilight aren'T known internationally for the quality of their lyrics and for their musical arrangements. They seriously are wonderful and unique. This song is so emotional and so inspiring. Their songs aren't just music : they are meaningful poems. I wish I could go see one of their shows...

David

Civil Twilight, the most underrated group ever. They are pretty awesome.

Ashleigh

Dave if you like them, you'll love nothing but thieves!

Arif Karnai

They are "underrated" because they pretty much sound like Radiohead. It doesn't sound original.. just a Radiohead copy
