While touring in support of their full-length album Albatross, the band created the Acoustic EP: Seattle Sessions, which was simply a compilation of songs they created while on the road.
Their next album, 'The Silver Cord', was released on July 22, 2008. With the album being based on the realities of life and death, it signals a move into an alternative genre for TCC. Exactly 5805 copies of 'The Silver Cord' were sold in the first week. 5805 is a significant number because it is a song title on the album and it is the address of the house where the band formed and began to break out.
In 2010, 'Vagabonds' was released.

As you once were
When you pulled me from the brink of death
My enemies were frenzied
For a taste of my flesh
And now I've got the same feeling again
(same feeling again)
The beasts are closing in,
So I will run (I will run)
Into your open arms
(I've got nowhere else to go)
Whoa
I don't want to live like this anymore
Trading truth for the simple things
I don't want to live like this anymore
Will you give me the will to sing out:
When I'm filled with the darkest of doubt?
When I'm down for the count?
Protect me,
From Mutiny
From those who
Miscarried your baby
From those who
Miscarried the truth
So they could selfishly do
Whatever they thought was pleasing
Protect me from insincerity
From between their teeth it's practically oozing
Their eyes are hollow and blind
And they are wasting my time
And it's time that I'm losing
So I will run (I will run)
Into your open arms
(I've got nowhere else to go)
Whoa
I don't want to live like this anymore
Trading truth for the simple things
I don't want to live like this anymore
Will you give me the will to sing out:
When I'm filled with the darkest of doubt?
When I'm down for the count?
(instrumental) (whooo)
Whoa
I don't want to live like this anymore
Trading truth for the simple things
I don't want to live like this anymore
Will you give me the will to sing out:
When I'm filled with the darkest of doubt?
Will you give me the will to sing out?
When I'm filled with the darkest of doubt?
When I'm down for the count?
In "The Count" by The Classic Crime, the singer is asking for protection and salvation from a situation where they feel lost and attacked. The lyrics "Be good to me as you once were when you pulled me from the brink of death" imply that this person has been in a similar situation before, and that they had someone who helped them out of that difficult time. They are now experiencing that same feeling again, facing enemies who are "closing in" and ready to tear them apart. The singer seeks protection from insincerity and people who are wasting their time, indicating that they may have been hurt before by those they trusted. The repeated chorus of "I don't want to live like this anymore" emphasizes the singer's desperation to escape their current situation and the need for someone to give them the strength to keep going even in the darkest moments.
Overall, the song touches on themes of survival, protection, and the importance of having someone to lean on during difficult times. It highlights the idea that even when we face our toughest battles, we can come out stronger on the other side with the help of loved ones and those who support us.
