Awakening
The Damning Well (featuring Wes Borland Richard Patrick Josh Freese & Danny Lohner) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Out of control of a history untold
It begins with the father of sin
I walk alone in the garden of stones
I turn into the monster within
Life is too long for me
Life is too wrong for me

'Cause there's something that
I realize
That I miss being human
I realize
That I miss being human
Nothing Times

I lose control as the story unfolds
I have been like a knife to bare skin
I walk alone like a king with no throne
I burn up from the monster within
Life is too long for me
Life is too wrong for me

'Cause there's something that
I realize
That I miss being human
I realize
That I miss being human
Nothing Times

I like hunting the pieces
I like hunting the pieces
I like hunting the pieces
'Cause I have come to need this
I like hunting the pieces
I like hunting the pieces
'Cause I have come to need this
Shell

'Cause there's something that
I realize
That I miss being human
'Cause there's something that
I realize
That I miss being human
I teach lies
That I miss being human
I teach lies

That I miss being human
I teach lies

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Awakening" by The Damning Well seem to talk about a struggle with one's own inner demons and the feeling of losing control while struggling with them. The first verse sets the stage with the mention of an untold history, and the father of sin, possibly alluding to the original sin of Adam and Eve from the bible. The singer sings about walking alone in a garden of stones and turning into the monster within. These lines seem to suggest a sense of alienation and confusion as the singer comes to terms with the darkness within them.

The chorus reveals that the singer misses being human, which could be interpreted as a longing for a time when they were not consumed by these negative feelings. The second verse continues the theme of losing control, with the use of a knife as a metaphor for the damage that can be caused when one is struggling with their inner demons. The line "I burn up from the monster within" could suggest a sense of pain or anger, and the repetition of "Life is too long for me, Life is too wrong for me" emphasizes the struggle and the weight of these feelings.

The bridge section of the song brings in the idea of "hunting the pieces," possibly referring to a desire to understand oneself and piece together the parts that make up the whole. The repetition of "I like hunting the pieces, 'cause I have come to need this" suggests that even though the journey may be difficult, the singer sees it as a necessary part of their growth. The song ends with a repeat of the chorus, but with the addition of the phrase "I teach lies," perhaps hinting at the idea that the singer has been hiding their true self from the world and themselves.

Youtube Music is better than Spotify by leaps and bounds. With YT Music, potentially anything anyone uploads is on here. With Spotify it has to be like "official". Plus if you like a song in YT it also goes to your YT Music likes automatically. Only thing good about Spotify imo is implementation with Xbox dashboard.
