GREEN
The Dandy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You opened the door,
I let myself in.
Between you and me,
I only believe
What I want to believe.
I guess it's because I'm
Greener than green.
Only because I'm green.
Only because I'm green.

I came up to your floor
You were dressed
Just a little obscene.
And it shut me down
Quite sexually
Like a pre-adolescent
because I'm greener than green.

Only because greener then green.
Only because I'm green.

Overall Meaning

The Dandy Warhol's song "Green" is a song about naivety and the feeling of being inexperienced. The first verse describes someone who has let themselves into a situation where they only choose to see what they want to see or believe what they want to believe. The repetition of the line "Only because I'm green" emphasizes the singer's lack of experience in the situation, the color green being a symbol of inexperience or naivety.

The second verse describes the same person going up to the floor of someone else who is dressed provocatively, leading to the person feeling shut down sexually like a pre-adolescent. This emphasizes their naivety in sexual situations and how they are not yet mature enough to handle them. The repetition of "Only because I'm green" continues to emphasize this inexperience.

Overall, "Green" is a song that focuses on the feeling of not being experienced enough and trying to navigate through situations that the individual is not yet equipped to handle.

Also, I love the song. Lyrics aside, the song sort of motivates me to move forward with my life. God only knows why. It's healing.

It should motivate you. I always interpreted the lyrics as green being young and rather care free, like a greenhorn or a rookie to life. Green like a tomato on a vine that needs to grow more to be at its best. Knowing that at some point you will need to grow up and be responsible. The line "Like a pre adolescent im greener than green. Pretty deep lyrics actually. The music completely adds to the thought.

@TheElron71well god damn. I think you pieced it together for me. Thank you. Kind of interesting how a person can derive meaning, even an on the mark meaning from something they don’t really understand intellectually. I guess music works on a different level.
