Darts was a nine-piece British doo-wop revival ensemble that garnered chart success in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Hailing from London, the group achieved several UK top 20 hits, including three consecutive number twos, with revitalized renditions of early U.S. rock and roll and R&B classics.
Formed in 1976 by Den Hegarty, Griff Fender, Rita Ray, and Horatio Hornblower, all former members of Rocky Sharpe and the Razors, along with Thump Thompson, George Currie, and John Dummer, formerly of John Dummer's Blues Band. The lineup was rounded out by Hammy Howell and ex-Mickey Jupp vocalist Bob Fish. Their breakthrough came after an appearance on Charlie Gillet's show on BBC Radio London in October 1976, leading to a recording contract with Magnet Records and collaboration with producer Tommy Boyce, known for his work with The Monkees.
With a repertoire of 1950s rock and roll hits, they achieved their first UK hit in December 1977 with a medley of "Daddy Cool" and "The Girl Can't Help It". Subsequent hits in 1978 included covers of "Come Back My Love" and "The Boy from New York City", along with the original song "It's Raining". These singles all reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, collectively selling 1.25 million copies.
Following Hegarty's departure in September 1978, Kenny Andrews joined the band. Further hits followed in 1978 and 1979, including "Don't Let It Fade Away" and "Get It". They also covered Gene Chandler's "Duke of Earl", produced by Roy Wood. Their last significant hit came in 1980 with a cover of The Four Seasons' "Let's Hang On!".
The lineup saw changes in 1980, with Duncan Kerr and Keith Gotheridge joining, and Rob Davis briefly contributing before focusing on songwriting and production. By 1983, the group transitioned to theatre work, appearing in productions like Yakety Yak.
Den Hegarty later became a television presenter, notably on the children's program Tiswas, while Fender and Ray managed and produced The Mint Juleps, an a cappella girl group.
Darts remains listed in the Top 500 selling acts, according to the Guinness Book of British Hit Singles.

THE DARTS (US) is an all-girl garage-psych-rock supergroup composed of Nicole Laurenne (The Love Me Nots, Motobunny, Zero Zero), Rikki Styxx (The Two Tens, The Dollyrots, Thee Outta Sites), Christina Nunez (The Love Me Nots, Casual Encounters, The Madcaps), and Michelle Balderrama (Brainspoon).
Formed in early 2016, the band emerged when Nicole and Michelle, having observed each other's bands for years, decided to collaborate on songwriting. With six songs prepared, Rikki and Michelle recorded their contributions in Los Angeles, while Nicole and Christina recorded theirs in Phoenix. Producer Bob Hoag then skillfully blended the tracks, resulting in two dynamic 10” vinyl EPs brimming with garage riffs, girl-group harmonies, fuzz bass, farfisa organ, powerful drum fills, and a captivating lo-fi-turned-hi-fi vibe.
Following their October 2016 debut, the singles “Running Through Your Lies” and “Revolution” received immediate radio airplay, with “Take What I Need” earning recognition as "The Coolest Song In The World" by Sirius/XM’s Underground Garage channel. The band's inaugural live performance took place in October 2016, leading to a subsequent signing with London’s Dirty Water Records.
Daddy Cool/The Girl Can't Help It

She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she walks by and the menfolks get engrossed
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she winks an eye and bread slices turn to toast
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she's got a lot of what they call the most
The girl can't help It if she was born to please
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
And if she's got a figure made to squeeze
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
Won't you kindly be aware
The girl can't help it, the girl can't help it!
If she mesmerizes ev'ry mother's son
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she smiles and rare steaks become well done
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she makes grandpa feel like twenty one
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
The Girl can't help it if she was born to please
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
And if I go to her on bended knees
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
Won't you kindly be aware, that I can't help it, I can't help it
Because I'm hopin' obviously
That someday the answer will be
The girl can't help it if she's in love with me!
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she walks by and the menfolks get engrossed
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she winks an eye and bread slices turn to toast
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
If she's got a lot of what they call the most
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
The girl can't help It if she was born to please
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
And if she's got a figure made to squeeze
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
I'm hopin' obviously
That someday the answer will be
The girl can't help it if she's in love with me!
She can't help it, the girl can't help it
The Darts’s song Daddy Cool/The Girl Can't Help It is a playful, upbeat track that celebrates the unconquerable charm of a woman. The song opens with the repetition of the line “She can't help it, the girl can't help it” and continues with a series of situations where the woman's attractiveness and charisma are irresistible to men. The second verse highlights the woman's physical allure, and further emphasizes her irresistible nature. The song’s bridge momentarily switches the perspective to the male speaker, saying that the woman's charm is so powerful that she can make him fall in love with her – he is convinced that someday “the girl can't help it if she's in love with me.”
Overall, the song presents a lighthearted perception of female desirability and attraction, sending the message that a woman does not need to apologize or be ashamed for her natural magnetism. It is important, however, to keep in mind the song's context in time, as it was released in 1978, a time when women's rights were still struggling to make their mark in music and society. Therefore, the song's take on women and how men react to them might be considered problematic or outdated by today's standards.
