Drown
The Dose Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Woo me back to sleep
Salt my open cuts
Push me in too deep
I'll trust my gut

Go ahead, tempt me under the trees
Got my feet on the ground
The hand that feeds the hound of the disease has been
Forever bound

Pray upon the fear
Within my heavy head
Hiss into my ear
All that I dread

Go Ahead, tempt me under the trees got my feet on the ground

The hand that feeds the hound of the disease Has been
Forever bound

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of The Dose's song "Drown" describes a character who is feeling overwhelmed and hurt. The line "Woo me back to sleep" hints at the idea that they may be going through something traumatic that they want to avoid dealing with. The following line, "Salt my open cuts," emphasizes their pain and vulnerability. Despite this, they are willing to take risks and trust their intuition. "Push me in too deep / I'll trust my gut" suggests that they are aware of the dangers of diving into something headfirst, but they are willing to take that risk in order to find relief.

The second stanza explores the idea of temptation and manipulation. The line "The hand that feeds the hound of the disease has been / Forever bound" seems to refer to someone who is giving into their own destructive tendencies. They are being controlled by their own "disease," which they cannot escape. Someone else is "feeding" this beast and keeping it alive. The line "Pray upon the fear / Within my heavy head" suggests that this person is being targeted because of their own insecurities and anxieties. They are vulnerable to manipulation because they are already dealing with so much internal turmoil.

Overall, the lyrics of "Drown" explore themes of pain, vulnerability, and manipulation. The character in the song is clearly going through a tough time, and they are willing to take risks in order to find some sort of relief. However, they are also aware of the dangers of giving into temptation and manipulation.

I wasn't alive yet in the 90s but god i wished I was. The Seattle sound has been such a big inspiration for me. Soundgarden and Nirvana are my top two fav bands of all time. The angst-ridden honesty in their music has kept me going through my darkest days. Nobody would have thought it was possible but this band has just showed me that grunge can still make a great comeback in this era, in this generation. Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, Andy Wood, and many others would be proud. I hope they and others like them continue to do what they do best and love the work they have done. Peace!!!
