Don't
The Dust Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A dependent independence
Do a little each day hey
Hoping up ways to catch a break
A little lay down I'm done
A little breeze or some sun
But in the club land they beat up all
The screwy little loosey dumby dumbs
Bop em on the dome
They beat up all the screwy
Little loosey dumby dumbs
Make your mind
Make your mind
Make your mind
Make your mind
I gotta make your mind
Gotta make your mind
Make your mind up
Make your mind up
Ah Woah
Ooo
Well I guess I've been a little undead
Had the wrong thoughts filling my head
Had nobody who stayed hey
Hoping up ways to catch a name
A little ways down I'm done
Another mind on the run
But in the club land they beat up all
The screwy loosey little dumby dumbs
Dumbs
Bop em on the dome
Beat up all the screwy loosey little dumby dumbs
Make your mind
Make your mind
Make your mind
Make your mind
Make your mind
Ah gotta make your mind
Gotta make your mind
Make your mind up
Make your mind up
Make your mind
The lyrics of The Dust's song "Don't" seem to delve into themes of struggle, feeling lost, and seeking independence amidst external pressures. The artist reflects on a sense of dependence while also striving for a form of autonomy that they themselves may not fully comprehend. This juxtaposition is described as a "dependent independence," capturing the internal conflict of feeling compelled to rely on others while also desiring to stand on one's own.
The notion of doing a little each day and hoping to catch a break points to a sense of perseverance and resilience in the face of challenges. The artist alludes to moments of exhaustion and yearning for rest, symbolized by phrases like "A little lay down I'm done," suggesting a need for reprieve from the demands of the outside world. However, the mention of "club land" hints at a harsher reality where individuals face judgment and mistreatment, possibly referring to societal pressures or criticisms that can be psychologically damaging.
The repetition of the phrase "Make your mind" emphasizes the importance of clarity and decisiveness in navigating these complex feelings and external influences. There is a sense of urgency in the plea to "Make your mind up," urging the listener to make choices and assert their own agency in the face of uncertainty or manipulation. The use of imagery like being "undead" and having the "wrong thoughts filling my head" conveys a feeling of being lost or disconnected from oneself, highlighting the struggle to maintain a sense of identity and direction amidst confusion and negativity.
Ultimately, the lyrics of "Don't" capture a journey towards self-discovery and empowerment, underscored by the artist's inner turmoil and external challenges. The repeated refrains and rhythmic structure of the song create a sense of urgency and introspection, inviting listeners to reflect on their own struggles and resilience in the face of adversity. The repetitive nature of the lyrics reinforces the idea that finding one's way and asserting one's mind is a continuous process, marked by perseverance and self-determination.

Facts
@1039Artemis
Fun fact: this song is 100 beats per minute. If someone goes into cardiac arrest you can give chest compressions to the beat of this song. It got me through my cpr certification. Don’t sing “bites the dust” out loud though. That would be in poor taste!
@Hi-im-Talia
One of the most ironic things ever. I doubt it but i truly hope the beat was ment to be able to be used for cpr
