I've always been a giant fan of the Ryan/Summer friendship. I don't even wish that the writers had made them hook up, coz their friendship was sweet/funny/awesome. I just wish the writers had spent more effort on Seth/Marissa friendship, which was great in the early days and then died :/

Summer had the least depth of the 4 teens. She was basically the lighthearted comic relief, most of the time. None of her arcs were ever heavy or emotional. She was never a serious character.

None of her scenes were full of intensity and emotion like the ones with Ryan, Trey, Marissa, Sandy etc. Even her scenes with the therapist after Marissa's death had a lighthearted and humorous vibe to them. Summer was someone who never took anything too seriously or heavily, that's just who she was.

@jonathan powell That's also why it would have never worked out with her and Ryan if they ever had gotten together. He was too deep and serious for her, and she just wanted to have fun in life. At least for the most part.
Me personally? I don't like constantly optimistic and sunny people who "just want to have fun". They annoy the crap out of me. So it wouldn't have worked out between me and Summer either. Ha.

To me it always seemed like Marissa and Seth weren't even real friends. They only happened to hang out because they were together with Ryan and Summer. If those two weren't there, Marissa and Seth wouldn't have had anything to do with each other besides being neighbors.

Good point, I think you're right. I'm not sure Summer would have done it either, as it would have hurt Seth too much. But Summer and Ryan do have chemistry, and I love the few scenes in which they interact!

While Ryan and Summer definitely had chemistry I really don't think Ryan would ever go there just because of his relationship with Seth. I think the only way that this pairing would ever happen is literally over Seth's dead body. Seth would have to die for it to happen.
