I've Found Someone of My Own
The Free Movement Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I got up this morning
While I was having my coffee
My woman came in
Sat down by my side
With tears in her eyes
She said, :I have a confession to make"
And I said, â??Woman,
Speak what's on your mindâ??

She said, â??I found somebody new
To take your placeâ??
I said, â??Don't feel so all alone
I found someone of my ownâ??

On those lonely nights
You left me all alone
Oh my new love would call
And comfort me on the phone
And I said, â??Woman
If that's the way it's gotta be,
Then darlin'
Don't you worry â??bout meâ??

She said, â??I found somebody new
To take your placeâ??
I said, â??Don't feel so all alone
I found someone of my ownâ??

I got up form the table
I reached down and wiped the tears from her face
I put out my cigarette
Turned and walked away

She said, â??I found somebody new
To take your placeâ??

I said, â??Don't feel so all alone
I found someone of my ownâ??

Overall Meaning

The Free Movement’s song “I’ve Found Someone of My Own” tells a story of a man who has been cheated on by his woman, but instead of mourning his loss, he declares he has found someone of his own. The song follows the conversation between the two with the woman's confession that she has found someone new. The man responds with a calm magnanimity, proving that he has already moved on. He reveals that he had already found someone else to take her place during those lonely nights.

The lyrics of the song portray a sense of independence and self-worth. The man in this song shows that he is not bothered by her leaving him because he has found someone who loves him for who he is. He won't settle for anything less than someone who truly wants him. The song also seems to suggest that revenge is best served by moving on and not letting the past define the future.

One interesting fact about “I’ve Found Someone of My Own” is that the band The Free Movement was originally formed by members of several other bands, including The Soul Agents and The Sons of Adam. Another interesting fact is that the song was written by the brothers Frank and Dino DeVol, who were known for their work in Hollywood as film score composers. Additionally, the song was a hit in the 1970s, reaching the number five spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.

The 60’s, 70’s and 80’s were just remarkable for the entire music industry! Those era’s will never come around again, and, that music will never, ever disappear!

I Love this song. One night my husband and I were just listening to the songs we grew up with. After listening for awhile I told him to find it and play it. He did and after the song was over he said, do you have to tell me something? I said I just love this song and if I had no feelings for you after being married for 40 years, Why would I still be here? He was relieved. Lol

@jackieguccione94
