Their best known tunes include "Our Lips Our Sealed", "Vacation", and "We Got The Beat" among others. Their trend-setting debut album, 'Beauty and the Beat', didn't just reach #1 after its 1981 release but is also considered one of the cornerstone albums of American new wave. In the beginning, they played primarily what was known as 'pop punk', and they then made their sound more sunny and romantic, having later associated themselves with the distinct sound of 80s pop rock. The Go-Go's had five Top 40 hits in their heyday.

In addition, there was a group from Newcastle in the U.K. known as "The Go-Go's" in the 60s. That artist is known for their 1964 novelty Christmas single, titled "I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek", which referenced the budding 'Doctor Who' craze. Like the later U.S. band of the same name, the group's name was a reference to go-go dancing.

My baby, he went away
He went away across the sea
It's been two years ago
That's when my baby go
That's when this letter it came to me
He'd found somebody new
Oooh, let me think
Oooh, let me think
What can I do?
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no no no no no
Walking in the sand
Walking hand in hand
The night was so exciting
His lips were so inviting
Whatever happened to
The boy that I once knew
The boy who said he'd be true
What will happen to
The life I gave to you
What will I do with my heart now
(Remember) walking in the sand
(Remember) walking hand in hand
(Remember) walking in the sand
(Remember) walking in the sand
(Remember) walking hand in hand

The lyrics of "Walking in the Sand" by The Go-Go's tell the story of a woman who is reminiscing about a past relationship. The song begins with her reflecting on how her partner left her and went away across the sea, and it has been two years since he left. She then receives a letter from him, stating that they are through and he has found someone new. She is left heartbroken and confused, wondering what she should do now.
The chorus emphasizes her feelings of sadness and nostalgia as she recalls the times they spent together. She remembers walking hand in hand on the beach, the excitement of the night, and how his lips were so inviting. She ponders what happened to the boy she once knew, the one who promised to be true to her.
Throughout the song, there is an underlying sense of loss and yearning. The woman questions what will happen to the life she gave him and what she should do with her heart now. The repetition of "walking in the sand" serves as a reminder of the memories they shared, and the phrase "Remember walking in the sand" acts as a plea to hold on to those moments and not forget the love they once had.
Overall, "Walking in the Sand" portrays the emotional turmoil of a broken relationship, capturing the feelings of heartbreak, nostalgia, and uncertainty.
